What’s On This Week 🗓️
Pancake Day Tea Lock-In 🥞
When: March 4
Where: Bird and Blend, Nottingham
How much: £15pp
Pancake Day is this Tuesday, and there are plenty of places offering delicious deals and specials. This one is especially unusual, though. Instead of offering plates of fluffy goodness, Bird and Blend is offering creative drinks that taste like them, using its pancake teas and matcha. £10 to spend in-store is included in the ticket, so you can stock up on your favourites (we recommend the Goose Fair-inspired Candyfloss at the Fair!).
Do if: You’d like a pre-Pancake Day dinner warm-up.
NTU Vocal Competition 🎶
When: March 5
Where: University Hall, Nottingham
How much: Free entry
Head down to this lunchtime concert hosted by NTU Arts, where its talented students will be battling it out for the top prize in its vocal competition. You can expect an eclectic mix of musical styles, so be sure to go with an open mind. The students will be performing two different pieces in front of a guest adjudicator. The event runs from 1-3pm, making it a lovely option for an extended lunch or a free afternoon.
Do if: You miss The X-Factor (...not just us, right?).
International Women’s Day Beer Launch 🍻🎶
When: March 6
Where: The Canalhouse, Nottingham
How much: Pay what you feel
Nottinghamshire brewery Castle Rock and Derbyshire brewery Thornbridge have collaborated on a special International Women's Day beer called Are We There Yet, which they are launching during this evening. There will also be live music from Chloe Rodgers and Penny Moon. The event is pay what you feel, with all proceeds going towards Nottingham Women’s Centre. Plus, 10p of each pint will go towards the organisation.
Do if: You’d like an excellent excuse for a mid-week pint.
Thoresby Makers Market 🛍️
When: March 9
Where: Thoresby Park, Newark
How much: Free entry, £3 car parking
Discover a range of different local creatives by visiting this lovely makers market at the beautiful Thoresby Park. They will be selling a mixture of crafts and food and drink. There will be both indoor stalls inside the riding hall and outside stalls in the courtyard, so you’ll be covered whatever the weather does. You can also walk around the courtyard and visit the military museum while you’re there.
Do if: You’d love to support local artists (and bag yourself a little treat).

Hot Property 🏡
A £1.2m bungalow? This may seem like a high price — but step inside this Ruddington home and you might just change your mind. In fact, it’s not just a home — it’s a chalet. It has a whole host of rooms, such as a sitting room, kitchen/diner (which we’re in love with), and a music room. As well as the six bedrooms, there are two bathrooms — check out the one with the jacuzzi on picture 18. Plus, the interior itself is also very much the classic Nancy Meyers aesthetic. The house is marketed by Benjamins. rightmove.co.uk
News 🗞
🎶 Guess who’s back: Splendour has announced over 25 new acts for its line-up, as well as three brand new stages, for this year’s event. Starsailor, Cassia, Lucy Spraggan, Remember Monday, and Set In Motion will all be playing at the iconic festival. Plus, the three new stages are the Day Fever stage, The Bodega New Music stage, and the Dance stage. Day tickets for the festival are £69pp and weekend tickets are £105pp. splendourfestival.com
🏅 Going for gold: Former Royal Marine Ben Lukowski won two gold medals at the Invictus Games in Canada. He served several tours of Iraq and Afghanistan, but sadly suffered a brain injury in a car crash near his home in Nottinghamshire. However, his love of sport aided his rehabilitation, which then helped him triumph during the international event. He won his medals for indoor rowing, and his team came fourth in sitting volleyball. bbc.co.uk
Scores on the doors ⚽
🌳 Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest held fellow European challenger Arsenal to a goalless draw last Wednesday at the City Ground as they look to consolidate a top-four Premier League spot. They are in action tonight (Monday) against Premier League strugglers Ipswich in the FA Cup, with a quarter-final spot against Brighton up for grabs.
🦌 Mansfield Town
Mansfield Town drew 1-1 away against Burton Albion. Former Brewer Lucas Akins missed a late penalty and the Stags winless run now stands at 11 games. They sit just 6 points above the League One relegation places.
🐦 Notts County
Despite a dominant performance, Notts County could only manage a draw against Fleetwood. The Magpies missed several big chances and needed Alassana Jatta to earn them a point that left them 4th in the League Two promotion chase.
🏒 Nottingham Panthers
The Nottingham Panthers had a busy week, recording three wins in 5 days — although their 2-0 home win against Belfast wasn't enough to stop them bowing out of the Challenge Cup at the semi-final stage. They did however bounce back with wins over Dundee Stars (4-0) and Fife Flyers away (1-4).
