Notts Going On — Green Hustle and the Victoria Embankment Paddling Pool
Half-term fun, a cottage in Chilwell, the re-opening of the Embankment pool, and more...
Hello and welcome to Notts Going On — your weekly guide with events, property, news, and more.
I haven’t done one of these little intros for a while, so this is me (Eve) saying hi! I hope you’re all having a lovely bank holiday. We went to the cricket at Trent Bridge on Friday, which was so fun. If you want to see more of what we do during the week, give us a follow on Instagram. We’re also on TikTok.
Social is fun to do, but journalism will always be my first love — and you can find more of that down below. I’m also doing an interview this week which I’m very excited about! Get ready for a few long-read features in June.

Hot Property 🏡
With plenty of charm and character, this three-bedroom cottage in Chilwell looks like a cosy place to call home. From the outside, it looks straight out of a storybook. Head inside and you’ll find highlights including the bright living area with exposed beams and bricks, the double bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite, and the picturesque courtyard garden. The house needs a little work, but it has bags of potential. It’s listed at £450k and marketed by Robert Ellis. rightmove.co.uk

News 🗞
🌊 Making a splash: The iconic Victoria Embankment Paddling Pool officially re-opened on Thursday, following refurbishment made possible with £250k from the National Heritage Lottery. If you’re looking for a fun half-term activity, heading down here, having a swim, and tucking into Mr Whippy ice cream could be a fun idea. mynottinghamnews.co.uk
💡 Shining a light: Did you know that there are still gas lamps in Nottingham? We didn’t until we read this lovely BBC feature on the ones in The Park. It has been almost 200 years since they were installed, and the area is thought to be the largest residential estate to still use this traditional technology. Plus, about 100 of the Nottingham gas lamps are said to still be the originals. bbc.co.uk
🥊 Fighting talk: Eastwood resident Taylor Brown became a World Champion in two different divisions at the WFC World Championships in Baja, Hungary. He competed as part of a group of 24 young boxers from Revolution Gym in Sutton-in-Ashfield and was helped with the award of a £1k grant from Broxtowe Borough Council. westbridgfordwire.com
Scores on the Doors 🏆
🌳 Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest's place in the UEFA Conference League is confirmed as the Reds finished the season 7th in the Premier League. A 1-0 home defeat to Chelsea meant they missed out on the Champions League, but the season still represents a remarkable turnaround for a club that has narrowly avoided relegation in its first two seasons back in the top flight.
🐦 Notts County
Notts County have parted company with Stuart Maynard following their playoff semi-final defeat to Wimbledon. A club statement said that Notts felt “neither results nor performances reached the levels we believe the team was capable of.” National League promotion winners Sam Slocombe, Kyle Cameron, and Sam Austin have also left the club at the end of their deals.
🏏 Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club
The Blaze chased down 304 against Somerset to win by six wickets in the One Day Cup league stage. Nottinghamshire require four wickets to win on the final day of their County Championship Division One fixture at Yorkshire, before the Vitality Blast kicks off this week. Notts’ batter Ben Duckett scored 140 in England's game against Zimbabwe at Trent Bridge, with England winning by an innings and 45 runs.
