Notts Going On — Foodies Festival and a new Hockley burger restaurant
Fun festivals, an elegant home in Clifton, Forest news, and more...
Hello and welcome to Notts Going On — your weekly guide with events, property, news, and more.
We’ve been putting this newsletter together while packing to go away to Milan for a few days. We have lots of plans, including visiting the resting place of AC Milan’s Herbert Kilpin and the Nottingham Forest cocktail bar (not related to the football club!). So, apologies in advance if this weekend’s long-read is slightly late (it’ll be the July events guide, FYI!).

Chefs and bakers who will be cooking up a storm include Ritchie Stainsby who appeared on MasterChef: The Professionals last year, Great British Bake-Off winner Matty Edgell, and Nigel Brown. There will also be music from Judge Jules, The Wanted 2.0, and Blue, who are playing across Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Southwell Minster is a lovely location to visit, and during this tour, you’ll be able to explore it from a different angle. You’ll learn about the history of the bells, as well as even heading out onto the roof to see panoramic views of the area if the weather is clear — so be sure to pack your camera or charge your phone. There are around 200 steps, so you’ll also need to wear sensible shoes.

Hot Property 🏡
Clifton Hall houses the beautiful Grade I listed Holgate, which has six bedrooms and oodles of elegance. Step inside and you’ll find five reception rooms, six bedrooms, and five bathrooms. The sitting room with bespoke furniture, the Clive Christian kitchen, and the grand home cinema are all especially gorgeous. We also love the brick-clad bar. Oh, and if that wasn’t enough, there’s a spa and formal gardens on site, too. It’s listed at £2.5m and marketed by Fine & Country. rightmove.co.uk

News 🗞
🍔 On the grill: Burger restaurant Stax has announced that it will be opening a venue in Hockley. The exact open date is yet to be announced, but it says to expect smash burgers, cocktails, and a sun terrace. It has stiff competition in Hockley from BOHNS, so we will be interested to see how it differs. @stax.burger
⚽ Building up: The long-awaited City Ground development has been recommended for approval. This will see the existing Peter Taylor Stand demolished and replaced with a 10,000-seater stand, increasing the City Ground's overall capacity to 35,000. It’s due to be considered by Rushcliffe City Council’s planning committee this Thursday. bbc.co.uk
