These are a mixture of ones that we at The Notts Edit have visited and that are highly rated by people around the area.

1. Planters Brookfields
Where: Mapperley Plains, Mapperley
Pick up shrubs, pots, and everything in between at this spacious garden centre, as well as browsing gifts and homewares. You can also shop with peace of mind, as it has a lifetime plant guarantee. Struggling for inspiration? It has a plant of the month every month, which highlights seasonal planting ideas in order to help you create a garden filled with interest throughout the year. It also has locations in Tamworth and Bretby, in case you are reading this from further afield.
Visit if: You’d like to go to a garden centre easily from the city centre — Planters Brookfields is served by the 46 and 47 NCT bus routes, making it a breeze to get to.
2. Bardills Garden Centre
Where: Toton Lane, Stapleford
This family-owned centre has a brilliant selection of plants, with a mix of indoor and outdoor ones available and new stock every week. It is just as great with all things blue as it is green, with it having a knowledgeable fish department to help you look after scaly friends. Heading there for a special occasion? You can pick up a bouquet from the Interflora floristry department. Finish the whole occasion off with a slice of chocolate fudge cake or lemon drizzle at their coffee shop. You might even see a cat or two scampering around — Lily, Basil, Percy, and more call the centre their home.

3. Woodthorpe Park Plant Nursery
Where: Woodthorpe Park, Sherwood
The team at Woodthorpe nurture and care for the plants you see in Nottingham’s parks and green spaces, from trees and shrubs to perennials and bedding. The excess and surplus plants are available here for you to plant in your own garden. The sustainable approach doesn’t stop there, with it promoting peat free growing and grow your own. You can ask them for advice on this, as well as local gardening tips and tricks. While you are there you can also wander around the historic Woodthorpe Park.

4. Notcutts Wheatcroft Garden Centre
Where: Landmere Lane, Edwalton
With lovely displays, chic furniture, and hand-picked homewares, this family-friendly garden centre has something for everyone. It is also a real treat for animal lovers, with it having plenty of pet-friendly treats for dogs, cats, hedgehogs, and birds. Enjoying your garden is just as important as caring for it, which is why here you can also find wellies for weary weather, greenhouses to grow your greens, and furniture sets for al fresco dining with friends. Plus, you can indulge in a traditional afternoon tea with a glass of prosecco.

5. Blue Diamond
Where: Fosse Way, East Bridgford
Strolling around this stylish garden centre is a real delight, with it having a variety of areas to walk through. Start at the plant centre which is a jungle of botanical beauty (and will definitely tempt you to adopt a houseplant), before stepping into the clothing and homeware area. From here, dive into the food hall which has a mixture of local and artisan foods to choose from. Once you’re done, you can take a seat at The Greenhouse Kitchen which offers brunch and afternoon tea in a very Instagrammable setting.

6. Cherry Lane Bradmore
Where: Pendock Lane, Bradmore
While this is a chain garden centre, it does offer great value for money on plants. All the bedding plants are grown on the premises, meaning not only are the plants super healthy, but you’ll also be able to cultivate a garden with a low carbon footprint. You can also take a break at the Wellington’s Cafe & Bistro, where all the food is cooked to order. For those going with little ones, there is a Garden Play area they can enjoy too. And, if you do end up buying a lot of plants, it has a home delivery option.

7. Floralands Garden Centre
Where: Catfoot Lane, Lambley
Set in the beautiful Nottinghamshire countryside, this is filled with essentials for amateur and pro gardeners. It supports British gardening, with 80% of all plants and shrubs being primarily from the UK. This means that while the selection isn’t quite as big as others, it has plenty of quality to choose from. Climbers, edibles, roses, shrubs, and more will all help you create your own quintessential cottage garden. Looking beyond your garden? It also has a large selection of equine, poultry, and dog items.
