It’s Blue Monday and — I’m not going to lie — I haven’t been feeling amazing this last week.
If you’re in need of a pick-me-up too, have a look down below, as there are plenty of fabulous things to see and do this week. I’ve got lots of things planned to do in Nottingham, so I’m hoping getting out, exploring, and meeting brilliant people will help me feel better.

Where: Nottingham Trent University

Hear from fascinating speakers such as entrepreneur Peter Rushmer, mediator Mia Forbes Pirie, and psycho-nutritionist Anna Strozek during this day filled with knowledge. Whether you’re a fan of any of these specialisms or just love learning, you’re sure to leave with major food for thought.
Do if: You’d like some inspiration to make a difference this year.
Nottingham Comic Con 🦸
When: January 25
Where: David Ross Sports Village, Nottingham
How much: £11.37pp adult, £9.21pp teen and student, £5.98pp child
Spend the day trying retro gaming, seeing movie cars, and browsing shopping stalls during this day filled with comic and movie culture. Entry begins at 10am, but for those looking for a quieter experience, you can go at 9.30am for a more peaceful walk-around. Cosplay is encouraged, so you might want to get an outfit ready so you blend in with the crowd.
Do if: If you can’t wait long enough for EM-Con or would like to go to a less overwhelming version of it.
Beeston Light Night ✨
When: January 25
Where: Various locations around Beeston
How much: Free entry
From 6-9pm on Saturday, locations such as the High Road, The Square and Beeston Rylands will be filled with sparkling installations, performances, and displays. Expect fire performers, a silk fan dance, a torchlight parade, and much more. There’s a full location map on the site and everything is within walking distance.
Do if: You’re looking for a cosy winter night activity.
Beat the Streets 🎶
When: January 26
Where: Various venues around Nottingham
How much: From £15pp
With local musicians of all different genres playing, this festival is all about showcasing the best of Nottingham’s music scene, while raising money for homelessness charity Framework. Artists to look out for this year include rapper JayaHadADream who played at Glastonbury last year, heavy metal stars Evil Scarecrow, and singer-songwriter Mollie Ralph.
Do if: You’d like to shake up your playlist with exciting Nottingham artists.
The Ultimate Chocolate Experience 🍫
When: January 26
Where: Luisa’s Vegan Chocolates, Sneinton Market
How much: £65pp
Luisa’s is one of the best chocolate makers in Nottingham and is brilliant at creating ethical yet utterly delicious sweet treats. During this two-hour workshop, Luisa herself will show you how to taste the good stuff properly, the key processes for chocolate making, and how to mould your own chocolate. You’ll then be able to take your makes home with you.
Do if: You’re looking for a fun early Valentine’s date idea.

🌷 In bloom: St Ann’s Allotments is featuring on Monty Don’s British Gardens TV show this week. Monty Don was keen to feature St Ann’s Allotments as a rare example of Victorian detached town gardens in the heart of a city. The episode will be aired on January 24, but you can watch it on BBC iPlayer right now. bbc.co.uk
🏃 Iron woman: Nottingham’s own Lucy Gossage won a gruelling ultra-marathon on Thursday evening. She finished the 268-mile (430km) women's Montane Winter Spine Race in 87 hours, 41 minutes, and 38 seconds, travelling between Derbyshire and Scotland and withstanding freezing temperatures. 🌳 Nottingham Forest
Forest's impressive run of form continued with a 1-1 draw against Premier League leaders Liverpool on Tuesday, followed by a 3-2 win over Southampton on Sunday. Seven wins in their last eight games has Forest 3rd in the league, level on points with Arsenal in 2nd, and in a great position for a Champions League spot.
🦌 Mansfield Town
Playoff-chasers Mansfield Town lost 2-1 at home to high-flying Wycombe on Saturday, leaving the Stags 10th in League One. Their rearranged FA Cup tie against Wigan Athletic also saw them slip to a 2-0 defeat.
🐦 Notts County
Notts County celebrated Stuart Maynard's first anniversary as head coach with a near-perfect 3-0 away win over Accrington Stanley on Saturday. George Abbott scored yet another goal-of-the-season contender, firing home a superb volley from a corner (see it on Sky Sports). The Magpies are 5th in League Two, just three points from 2nd with a game in hand.
🏒 Nottingham Panthers
Two games, two comeback wins for the Nottingham Panthers, who came from behind to beat Coventry Blaze 2-1 on Saturday at home before a 4-2 away win against Fife Flyers on Sunday. The Panthers have a crucial play-in game on Wednesday, facing Glasgow Clan at home for a spot in the Challenge Cup semi-finals.
