Where to go for a romantic meal in and around Nottingham
By Holly Mayze and Eve Smallman
1. Raymond’s
What: Small plates and wine
Where: Stoney Street, Nottingham NG1 1LP
This has to be one of our favourite restaurants in Nottingham. It’s owned by top chef Marcus Lewsley who also co-founded Mesa, so he’s definitely the king when it comes to small plates and big flavours in Nottingham. The interior is mid-century and cosy, and the food is just as modern and relaxed — we recommend sharing a slice of basque cheesecake with your beau. It also has an incredible wine menu and cocktails by the masterminds at Cottonmouth. Oh, and did we mention that it’s in the Michelin Guide?
Do if: You’re looking for an impressive yet laidback city centre spot
2. Le Mistral
What: Elegant French cuisine
Where: Mansfield Road, Sherwood, NG5 2JN
No one does romance better than the French, right? Get a taste of the city of love at Le Mistral, a quaint bistro on Mansfield Road in Sherwood. The menu offers authentic French dishes including the traditional coq au vin, a classic moules mariniere and a delicious chicken and bacon fricassee. lt also has vegetarian and vegan dishes, including an indulgent beetroot and lentil bourguignon and a plant-based burger. As well as this, the bar has an authentic collection of French beers and wines.
Do if: You want to go down the classic, candlelight dinner route.

3. Pizza Punks
What: Relaxed pizza vibes
Where: Fletcher Gate, Nottingham, NG1 4FS
This rocking pizza place in the Lace Market is a chilled-out spot for a Valentine's date, which will not only impress with its funky design, but with its pizza choices. You can build your own with unlimited toppings or choose from the classic menu if you like to have it all done for you.

4. Taylor’s Fine Dining
What: Locally-sourced produce and refined small plates
Where: Castle Gate, Newark, NG24 1AZ
For those wanting to truly dazzle their dates, go for the sophisticated ambience and artistic menu at Taylor’s Fine Dining. It has the finest of a five-course set menu, offering bread for the table (always a tick), along with a choice of starters, an appealing main course, tasty desserts, and petit fours for afterwards.
