What’s On This Week 🗓️
Murder on the Orient Express 🎭
When: April 1-5
Where: Theatre Royal, Nottingham
How much: £17-£37pp
It’s winter 1934 and an avalanche stops The Orient Express dead in its tracks. Cue a murder, a train full of suspects, and a truly impossible case. Can the famous detective Poirot solve the case? Whether you know the tale or not, this brand-new production promises to be a deliciously thrilling ride. And — if you don’t know how it ends — it will definitely keep you guessing until the end of the line.
Do if: You’d love to add a bit of drama to your weekday or weekend evening watching.
Nottingham Independents’ Castle Beer Festival 🍻
When: April 4-5
Where: Nottingham Castle
How much: £10pp
There are so many wonderful breweries in the area, such as Blue Monkey Brewery, Black Iris, and Liquid Light. These and many others will be bringing beers and ciders to this brand-new festival, with special festival ones and new editions launching at the event. As well as all the different drinks, you can tuck into street food and dance the evening away to live music.
Do if: You’d like to discover new brews that you can bring into the warmer months with you.
Spring Awakening 🌳
When: April 6
Where: Rushcliffe Country Park
How much: £16.96pp
During this Sunday afternoon stroll, you’ll walk through the private woodlands in Rushcliffe Country Park, where you’ll focus on plants, trees, and other beautiful parts of nature. You’ll do this with two techniques: wildlife wandering where you’ll explore signs of life in the woodlands, and forest bathing which will be an immersive nature connection experience. You’ll also finish the journey with a cup of freshly foraged spring tea.
Do if: You’d like to go on a unique spring walk that will truly relax you.

Nottingham April events — 10 things to do this month
With the sun shining and the flowers blooming, there’s no better time to step out into the county and discover all the different April events happening in Nottingham.
Health and Wellness 🧘
Looking to give reformer pilates a try? I (Eve!) gave it a go at Studio by RWS, which is the only physio-led reformer studio in West Bridgford. It does a range of different classes, including 60+ body conditioning, the mobility-led flow, and the full-body signature. I did the essentials class, which was both relaxing to do and felt like a proper workout — I could feel it in my abs for days! You can see more about it on our Instagram reel. studiobyrws.punchpass.com
Hot Property 🏡
It has been a little while since we’ve put a juicy £1.2m home in! This six-bedroom home in Plumtree is a real beauty. It has a cosy yet classic interior, with wooden detailing and exposed brickwork throughout. Downstairs you’ll find three reception rooms and a kitchen with an AGA. Head upstairs and you’ll find all the bedrooms — including a luxe main bedroom suite. However, the outdoor area is arguably the best part of the home, with its south-facing garden, sprawling terrace area, and orchard. It’s marketed by Fine & Country. rightmove.co.uk
News 🗞
🎟️ Tickets please: Wollaton Hall will be charging visitors for admission from April onwards. This will cost £15pp for adults, but the ticket will gain you year-round access. Accompanying children 15 years and under can still go free, making it a great day out with the kids still. The hall’s newest gallery, Discovering Dinosaurs, will open to visitors from April 1. mynottinghamnews.co.uk
🥐 Hot stuff: Nottingham bakeries Tough Mary’s Bakehouse and Small Food Bakery were both named among the best in the country by The Good Food Guide. Tough Mary’s is one of our favourite spots for coffee and we swear by its croissants, but this has inspired us to go to Small Food Bakery, too. The Good Food Guide is also currently looking for nominations for its best local restaurants list. thegoodfoodguide.co.uk / @toughmarysbakehouse / @smallfoodbakery
🎮 Game on: Gaming bar NQ64 opened up on Friday last week, offering a fun and relaxed place to play retro games. As well as serving cocktails (including some exclusive to the Nottingham branch), the bar has also collaborated with local brewery Neon Raptor to create a bespoke cherry and grapefruit sour called the ‘Deadshot Daiquiri.’ We went to the launch on Thursday and had a blast (see our Instagram reel). nq64.co.uk
Scores on the doors ⚽
🌳 Nottingham Forest
Forest will be heading to Wembley at the end of April for their first FA Cup Semi Final since 1991! The Reds beat Brighton 5-3 on penalties after a goalless draw, with club captain and local lad Ryan Yates stepping up to tuck home the decisive penalty. Manchester City were confirmed as opponents, and Forest will be hoping for a repeat of their recent home win over Pep Guardiola’s side.
🦌 Mansfield Town
The Stags secured a crucial victory over strugglers Bristol Rovers, with a 2-1 away win that moves them 11 points clear of the League One relegation places going into the final games of the season. Caylan Vickers tucked home inside the first minute after some sloppy Rovers passing, before Dom Dwyer scored a second half winner.
🐦 Notts County
Notts continue to keep pace with the promotion chasers in League Two, with 2-0 win at Newport County moving them 7 points clear of 8th place and only two points from an automatic promotion spot. Charlie Whitaker’s brace secured the points on a comfortable afternoon for the Magpies.
🏒 Nottingham Panthers
The Panthers’ Elite League title aspirations are all but over, with a 4-1 defeat away at Guildford. An impressive late season charge had lifted them right into contention but the weekend’s games elsewhere mean that the Panthers are reliant on other results to win the title. Attention will now turn to the playoffs, of which the finals are at the Motorpoint in April.
🏏 Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club
The clocks have gone forward, the daffodils are in bloom and you can just about go out without a big coat on. Spring is here, which means the County Championship gets underway next Friday. Notts will be looking to improve on a disappointing Division One campaign as they get underway at Trent Bridge against Durham from April 4-7.
