Nottingham July events — 10 things to do this month
The season of fun and sun is in full swing, and there are so many fantastic events in Nottingham this July that will help you soak all this in.
From Nottingham to Milan 🇮🇹
We went to Milan for a few days on holiday! Of course this was a break, but naturally we had to do a couple of Nottingham things.
First of all, we visited Herbert Kilpin’s resting place at Milan’s Famedio — a tomb in the Cimitero Monumentale (Monumental Cemetery) where Milan’s most influential and significant people are buried.
There was something very moving about having both seen his humble birthplace on Mansfield Road and seeing his grand place of rest. Kilpin was the founder of AC Milan and very much founded Italian football. Sam wrote a piece about Kilpin back in January, which has more information about him:
As well as this, we also went to the Nottingham Forest bar for a post-dinner drink. You might have seen pictures of the outside of this bar on meme pages (do we still call them memes? Not sure!), but none of them showcase how cool it actually is. It serves amazing quirky cocktails, with one even being a bath with a little duck (unintentional ‘Ay Up Mi Duck!). You can see our visit on our Instagram reel.
Hot Property 🏡
It might be summer, but we’re already ready for cosy autumnal vibes. If you’re the same, you’ll love this adorable four-bedroom house in Kimberley. It has rustic wooden beams and brickwork throughout, which are especially lovely in the kitchen and the dining room. Head outside and you’ll find the most beautiful garden, with wisteria, blossoming borders, and a pond. It’s marketed by Watsons Estate Agents, which is accepting offers over £400k. rightmove.co.uk

News 🗞
🏹 Our outlaw: The city’s official Robin Hood Tim Pollard has sadly passed away. The news was shared on his Facebook page on Saturday, saying that he had faced a “short, brave battle with cancer.” The page also said: “Tim was, as many of you know, our very own, and only, Robin Hood. He was loved by so many, not just here in Nottingham, but far beyond.” bbc.co.uk
🏀 Slam dunk: Nottingham’s own Amari Williams has been drafted into the NBA by the Boston Celtics, after being chosen as the 46th overall pick. This is the first time a Nottingham player has become an NBA player, and the the 23-year-old becomes the third English-born active player in the NBA. He also previously played for the Nottingham Wildcats. bbc.co.uk
⚽ Building up: The City Ground expansion has been given the green light. This will see the existing Peter Taylor Stand demolished and replaced with a 10,000-seater stand, increasing the City Ground's overall capacity to 35,000. The conditions of the expansion also include paying over £1m to improve local bus services, £150k to upgrade the A60/Cattle Market Road junction, and £200k for cycle improvements along Lady Bay Bridge. bbc.co.uk
Scores on the Doors 🏆
🏏 Cricket
Ben Duckett was named Player of the Match in England's first test against India. The Nottinghamshire batter scored a crucial 149 in the second innings as England won impressively by four wickets.
Nat Sciver-Brunt of the Blaze top scored for England Women in their first T20 against India at Trent Bridge, but couldn't prevent a heavy defeat by 97 runs.
Nottinghamshire played out a high scoring draw against Yorkshire last week in the County Championship, and are currently away at Somerset. Somerset were 275-6 at the end of the first day.
