Notts Going On — Spring delights and best bakeries
Crafts and trails, a cottage in Brinsley, tasty treats, and more...
Hello and welcome to Notts Going On – your weekly guide with events, property, news, and more.
It’s another glorious week in the county – and a shorter week at that for many of us, with bank holidays on Friday and Monday (yay!). If the forecast holds up as it’s planned, these spring day out, spring walk, and al fresco dining pieces might come in useful:
Because of this, Notts Going On will be back in your inbox on Tuesday – but we’ll send out this weekend’s long-read as usual.
✉️ Enjoyed this week’s edition? Subscribe for free to get our articles in your inbox. Notts Going On gets sent out every Monday, and then we also send out a weekend read.
Already subscribed to The Notts Edit? Thank you! You can also share us with friends, family, co-workers, and anyone else who might like what we do. The more people that know about us, the more we can help discover the best of the rebel county.
☕ And, if you want to support our writing, you can buy us a coffee for just £5 on Ko-fi. We’re an independent publication and don’t put any articles behind paywalls, nor fill the site with ads.

Launching this week, Stitch Knit Social is the new mid-week event that’s all about bringing creatives together with their crafts. Yolk, with its cocooning yellow interior and great drinks list, is the perfect place for this.

Hot Property 🏡
Anyone else love the idea of living in a cottage? This four-bedroom home in Brinsley could be a dream come true. The interior has gorgeous dark wooden beams throughout, as well as a living room with a beautiful brick fireplace, a cosy kitchen/dining area with an island, and bedrooms that could all be doubles. Outside, there is a chic stone patio for al fresco dining, a sprawling lawn, and raised decking (perhaps for a hot tub?). The guide price is £550k and it’s marketed by Freckleton Brown. rightmove.co.uk
News 🗞
🥐 Hot stuff: Two Nottingham bakeries have been named among the best in the UK by the Good Food Guide. The Small Food Bakery in Lenton (@smallfoodbakery) retained its spot, while Breadmill Bakery in Sneinton Market (@breadmillbakery) was added to the list. If you’re wanting to try either, be sure to visit early, as the interest has caused both of them to be super busy. Interestingly, both of these use flour from the Nottingham Mill Co-op, who we interviewed last year. thegoodfoodguide.co.uk
💪 What a hero: Can you feel the power of the Gladiators? Naomi Church, who resides in Nottingham, certainly did, as she was a Gladiators finalist this year. She told the BBC: “It's just phenomenal, having watched the series as a child with my parents and now reliving that, being able to do it with my children is unbelievable.” You can watch the final – and the full series – on BBC iPlayer. bbc.co.uk / bbc.co.uk/iplayer
Scores on the Doors 🏆
🌳 Nottingham Forest and Mansfield Town 🦌
Nottingham Forest and Mansfield Town didn’t play over the weekend due to the international break, with Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson in the final England squad before the World Cup squad is selected.
🐦 Notts County
Notts County had a mixed week, losing 3-0 away to playoff-chasing Oldham, which also saw Ollie Norburn sent off. Notts responded with a 2-0 win away at relegation-threatened Harrogate, with Alassana Jatta scoring twice. Results elsewhere mean Notts sit in the League Two automatic promotion places.
🏒 Nottingham Panthers
The Nottingham Panthers suffered back-to-back defeats to the Belfast Giants on the road, losing 4-2 and 4-3 over the weekend. Ollie Betteridge and Josh Tetlow were selected to represent Great Britain at the 2026 Ice Hockey World Championship taking place in Switzerland in May.
🏏 Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club
Reigning County Champions Nottinghamshire start their title defence next week away at Somerset.
