Notts Going On — Light Night and Newstead Abbey repairs
Outdoor activities, a beautiful Beeston home, restoration news, and more...
Hello and welcome to Notts Going On — your weekly guide with events, property, news, and more.
Before we start, I just wanted to touch on the news about Notts TV closing in November (see its announcement here on Instagram). I was so saddened to hear about this. This announcement came in the same week that Global's radio shows in Nottingham closed down.
Having a range of diverse media outlets is really important for any area. For example, The Notts Edit is an online lifestyle magazine, which I started to provide something different in the area. It would have been simpler to just operate as a social media page — but doing proper journalism was really important to me, and I love doing it.
We are lucky in Nottinghamshire that there is still plenty of great writing and investigating happening that's worth supporting. It's definitely important to use them before you lose them.

Hot Property 🏡
Beeston is often named one of the best places to live around Nottingham — and this four-bedroom home in the area may just tempt you to pack up and move there. It has a chic and classic interior throughout, with touches of exposed brickwork adding warmth and depth to the space. This is especially beautiful in the kitchen, which has an arched feature wall. This then goes seamlessly into the diner and living area, thanks to the open-plan design. Outside you'll find a spacious garden, which has a lovely little summer house. It is accepting offers over £1m and it is marketed by Merritt Estates. rightmove.co.uk
News 🗞
🌳 Save the date: When people think of Nottingham, they often think of the iconic Sherwood Forest — so it just makes sense that it now has an official day. Thursday, February 20 marked the first Sherwood Forest Day, which was proposed and submitted by Sherwood Forest Labour MP Michelle Welsh. She told Notts TV that she hopes the day can expand in future years to “help people through the forest with various activities, launching various events where the whole community can come together.” nottstv.com
👷 Fix up: Newstead Abbey has been awarded nearly £1.5m for urgent repairs to its roof and other parts of the building. The Grade I building, which is the ancestral home of Lord Byron, was granted this from the government's Museum Estate and Development Fund. Sam Lux, portfolio holder for leisure and culture at Nottingham City Council — which manages the site — told BBC News that the announcement was “fantastic news.” bbc.co.uk
Scores on the doors ⚽
🌳 Nottingham Forest
Forest played a hotly-contested away game against Newcastle on Sunday. Despite Milenković and Yates pulling back a goal each in the second half, the game finished 4-3 to Newscastle. The Reds will be playing against Arsenal at home this Wednesday, which promises to be a feisty top-of-the-table clash.
🦌 Mansfield Town
The Stags played against former rivals Wrexham FC (of Ryan Reynolds fame) on Sunday, losing 2-1 at home. They’re playing against fellow midlands team Burton away this Saturday.
🐦 Notts County
After drawing against Colchester last Tuesday, Notts County returned to their winning ways with a 2-1 away win against Tranmere on Saturday. Their next two games are against Fleetwood (away this Saturday) and Barrow (home next Tuesday).
🏒 Nottingham Panthers
After a shootout defeat to rivals Sheffield Steelers on Saturday, the Panthers bounced back with a 3-1 win over Manchester Storm on Sunday. Their next game will be against Belfast on Wednesday, which is the second leg of the Challenge Cup semi-final (tickets are still available on the Motorpoint Arena site!).
