🚊 Tram star: Beeston-born designer Sir Paul Smith visited Nottingham last week for his show at the Playhouse, and while he was here he celebrated a brand new tram being named after him. He said: “This city is where it all began for me and my career, and I feel incredibly lucky to be recognised in this way.” Sir Paul joins many other notable Nottingham people who have also had a tram named after them, including actress Vicky McClure, cricketer Stuart Broad and football star, Mary Earps. bbc.co.uk
🏆 Award winner: Actor David Shields won Best Performance in a Play for his leading role in Punch at the UK Theatre Awards on Sunday. The show was produced at the Nottingham Playhouse and was written by Mansfield-born playwright and screenwriter James Graham, who also writes TV programme Sherwood. The show will be transferred to the Young Vic Theatre in London next March. x.com
⚽ Scores on the doors: Notts County picked up their first win at Meadow Lane since September 7 with a 1-0 win against AFC Wimbledon. Matthew Platt’s second-half goal kept the Magpies two points off the top of League Two. Mansfield Town’s five-game winning run came to an end with a 1-0 home defeat to Stevenage, with the Stags now 4th in League One. Nottingham Forest resumes their Premier League campaign at home against Crystal Palace on Monday night. Meanwhile, the Nottingham Panthers had a topsy-turvy double header weekend in the Elite League, losing 5-2 to Dundee Stars before bouncing back with a big 5-1 win over Belfast Giants.

There have been so many adaptations of the famous Jane Austen novel throughout the years — but you’ve definitely not seen one like this. This award-winning adaptation is filled with comedy and pop songs, adding even more colour and character to the romance. The show has come directly from the West End and has received numerous five-star reviews, so you’re sure to be in for a treat.
Do if: You’ve run out of juicy period dramas to watch.
Queer Up Duck! 🏳️🌈

Where: Various venues around Nottingham

This is the inaugural event of this festival, which is all about celebrating the work of LGBTQ+ artists in Nottingham and the wider East Midlands. It will have theatre, exhibitions, film, music, comedy, drag and workshops, and there will be plenty for adults and families alike to enjoy. Highlights include The Personal is Political with CJ DeBarra (October 23, FABRIC, £4pp), Sound at Central x Queer Up Duck! (October 25, Nottingham Central Library, £10pp), and Drag Bingo (October 31, Rough Trade, £6pp). The prices vary depending on the event, so be sure to check before booking.

Kelham Hall Beer and Cider Festival 🍻
When: October 23-26
Where: Kelham Hall, Newark
How much: £10pp
Over 100 beers and 30 ciders will be available to try during this four-day festival. It will also feature the prestigious Champion Beer of Britain judging, so you’ll even be able to sample award-winning beers throughout. Plus, you can enjoy non-stop entertainment and music while you sip on your beverages. One ticket grants three days of access, a glass, and a programme. If you’re travelling from further afield, there are camper van tickets available, too.
Do if: You fancy trying some of the best beers in the country… or simply want to unwind properly after a long month.
Halloween Outdoor Cinema 🍿
When: October 25-28
Where: Wollaton Hall, Nottingham

Cosy up outside and watch an iconic Halloween film at one of Nottingham’s most iconic venues. The movies on offer are The Lost Boys (October 25), Hocus Pocus Spooktacular (October 26), The Nightmare Before Christmas (October 27), and Scream (October 28). You can bring your own picnics and drinks, but there will be hot food and snacks available. Tickets are running low, so you might want to be quick to book.
Do if: You have a large group of people you want to hang out with at Halloween.
Bramley Apple Festival 🍏
When: October 26
Where: Southwell Minster

Dozens of stallholders will be selling seasonal treats during this celebration of seasonal foods. We’re talking pies, jams, chocolates, and much, much more. For those of you who are all about the apples, expert Paul Barnett will be hosting a huge display of 300-350 apple varieties and will be able to identify any apples you’ve been growing at home. In addition to all this, there will be a demo kitchen with free cookery demonstrations.
Do if: You’re looking for a wholesome autumnal activity to do this season.
