News 🗞
🏒 Playoff winners: The Nottingham Panthers secured their first silverware since 2016, winning the Elite League Playoffs in dramatic fashion. Saturday’s semi-final against the Sheffield Steelers (4-3) saw outgoing captain Sam Herr stroke home a superb overtime winner, setting up a final against Cardiff Devils.
In the final, Panthers led 3-0 before collapsing to 3-3. In the first overtime period, both teams had a winning goal ruled out by coaches review, before Herr set up the superb Mitch Fossier for a winner in the second overtime period — sparking wild celebrations on the ice and even better ones in Bolero Square (watch on Instagram). bbc.co.uk
🏆 Hidden talent: The landlord of The King Billy pub in Sneinton was nominated for a gaming BAFTA. Jon Blyth voiced the pie salesman in the adventure video game Thank Goodness You’re Here!, which gained him a nod in the best performer in the supporting role award category. We’re big fans of The King Billy, so we’ll take any excuse to go down and raise a glass there. bbc.co.uk
Scores on the Doors
⚽ Nottingham Forest can leap back up to 3rd in the Premier League if they can beat 16th place Tottenham away at 8pm tonight. Mansfield Town played out a thrilling 3-3 draw away at Rotherham, with a home game today against Reading as they aim to avoid relegation to League Two. Notts County were held to a draw by fellow playoff contender Bradford, before they play Cheltenham today.
🏏 Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club
Notts shook hands on a draw last time out at Trent Bridge against Essex, and look like they’ll be drawing with Warwickshire despite a fine showing with bat and ball. Warwickshire were bowled out for just 93, with Josh Tongue and Brett Hutton taking 5 wickets a piece. Skipper Haseeb Hameed then carried his bat, scoring 138 of Notts 367. Notts currently need four wickets to win, but the weather forecast means 4th day play is unlikely.
