Notts Going On — Beat the Streets and a Panthers trophy
Festivals and fun nights, an elegant home in Mapperley, sporting wins, and more...
Hello and welcome to Notts Going On – your weekly guide with events, property, news, and more.
Over the weekend, I read an article by The Telegraph that ranked England’s 20 biggest cities from worst to best based on visitor appeal. It’s behind a paywall, but I can tell you that it put Nottingham 18th (plus Derby 16th and Leicester 15th).
While I disagree with its position (I’m biased!), it did lead to an interesting discussion about Robin Hood – does the city under utilise our most famous Outlaw as a tourist attraction?

The event this week is for 20s-30s, but there is also one next Wednesday for 30s-40s.
Do if: You’d like to have a go at finding a date for Valentine’s Day in person, rather than swiping on an app.

Where: Lakeside Arts, Beeston

Famous 20th-century artist Andy Warhol was known for his colourful works that reimagined what art could be during a time of great social, political and technological change. This exhibition will showcase his early drawings, painted screen prints, as well as paintings from the 1980s never exhibited in his lifetime. Think pop art paintings of Marilyn Monroe and Campbell soup boxes. Keep an eye out for our preview piece on this.

Burns Night With Glenmorangie 🏴

How much: £75pp
Celebrating the life and works of poet Robert Burns, this famous Scottish knees up will be brought to life in a new way by the chic Cleaver and Wake. Start off with a whisky-themed welcome cocktail, before diving into a special menu featuring reimagined classics, such as haggis, neeps, and tatties. You’ll need these for cèilidh dancing the night away! Smart attire is required, with kilts and tartan encouraged (naturally!).
Do if: You’ve always fancied partying on Burns Night, but have never had the right opportunity to do so.
Beat the Streets 🎶
When: January 25
Where: Rock City, Rescue Rooms, and The Bodega
How much: Recommended donation £20pp
Over 30 artists will be taking to three different stages around Nottingham, all to raise money towards Framework’s efforts to complete 20 new self-contained homes for former rough sleepers. Bigger artists to look out for include Bloodworm, Bored Marsh, and Saffron Gray – however, be sure to check out the full line-up, as it’s filled with talented musicians from around the area.
Do if: You’d like to discover new artists and spend a whole day gigging, all while knowing your cash is going to a good cause.
What’s On This Year 🗓️
Hot Property 🏡
Perched up high with soaring views, this five-bedroom home in Mapperley has beautiful features inside and outside. The panelled living room with a breezy bay window, the open-plan kitchen and dining space, and the cosy conservatory nestled artfully by the garden are just a few highlights downstairs. Upstairs, the bedrooms, bathrooms, and home office are all elegant and smart. We particularly like the garden, which has circular shapes and lots of room for roaming and entertaining. It’s marketed by FHP Living, which is accepting offers over £855k. rightmove.co.uk
News 🗞
🏆 We are the champions: The Nottingham Panthers are the 2026 Continental Cup Champions! The hosts won three games, first with a 4-0 win over Mogo, followed by another 4-0 win over Katowice to take them to the gold medal game. A 4-2 win over Torpedo on Saturday evening meant that the 2025 Playoff winners lifted the Continental Cup, and led to a repeat of the celebrations from the balcony overlooking Bolero Square. panthers.co.uk
🚆 Steaming ahead: Starting from February 6, East Midlands Railway will be closing access to platforms from the station’s footbridge at weekends. This is after data showed that a recent extension of restrictions led to a significant reduction in incidents towards both staff and customers. In August, EMR restricted access to platforms via the footbridge between 7pm and 6am each day. It will close at 7pm on Friday and reopen on Monday at 6am. westbridgfordwire.com
🎶 Tied up in Nottz: Looking for some new tunes to start your week with? Sleaford Mods’ new album The Demise of Planet X was released last Friday. The Guardian, Mojo Magazine, and NME all gave it four stars, and it features unexpected collaborations from Game of Thrones’ Gwendoline Christine and The Big Special - the latter of which is the incredibly catchy The Good Life. Listen to it down below:
Scores on the Doors 🏆
🌳 Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest battled to a 0-0 draw against Premier League leaders Arsenal at the City Ground. Arsenal could have extended their lead at the top of the League with a win, but Forest were well organised, particularly at set pieces, to earn a point. The result leaves Forest 17th – five points clear of West Ham.
🦌 Mansfield Town
Mansfield Town scored three goals inside 12 second-half minutes to beat Port Vale at Field Mill. Oliver Irow, who had signed on loan from Tottenham Hotspur and was making his senior debut when he broke the deadlock in the 55th minute. Will Evans scored Stags’ second before Irow secured the points to make it five straight wins and leave Mansfield 10th in League Two.
🐦 Notts County
Notts County played their first game in over two weeks, beating Crawley Town 2-1 away from home for their first win in five games. Jodi Jones and Alassana Jatta were on the scoresheet against 10 man Crawley, although there was to be no clean sheet for local lad James Belshaw, who made his debut in goal for his home club after signing earlier in the week. Notts sit 7th in League Two.
