Notts Going On — Doga Yoga and Pancake Day
Mindful activities, a charming cottage in Bramcote, new names, and more...
Hello and welcome to Notts Going On – your weekly guide with events, property, news, and more.
If you haven’t read it already, I highly recommend reading our Nottingham love letters piece that came out on Valentine’s Day. The city doesn’t always get the flowers it deserves, but the people from here and that live here know how great it can really be. This year will be my 10th in Nottingham, and reading the love letters from the likes of Bella Ramsey (yes, for real!) had me welling up.
Also, just letting you all know that there won’t be a weekend read this week, as I’m away! There will be a couple of long-reads next week to make up for this.

Lace up your running shoes and head down to the Victoria Embankment (aka the home of the Robin Hood Half) for a fun run. Choose to do either 5k, 10k, or even a full half marathon. Benefits include full race chip timing, a medal, snacks, drinks, and some surprise goodies. The Winter Warmer Run also supports the charity Shelter, which helps those experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

Hot Property 🏡
With four double bedrooms and oodles of character, this cottage in Bramcote is oh-so charming. Tucked away in a private courtyard, this farm building turned cottage dates back to the 1800s. Highlights include the farmhouse style kitchen (love the island!), the generous living room with an open fireplace, and the colourful bathrooms. The period style is certainly preserved, but this could be changed upon purchasing. Outside, there is a shared courtyard-style garden, as well as its own private gardens. The guide price is £650k, and it’s marketed by Robert Ellis. rightmove.co.uk
News 🗞
🚊 All aboard: Nottingham-born actor Vicky McClure has honoured Our Dementia Choir by dedicating her named Nottingham Express Transit (NET) tram to the cause. The tram was originally named in the actor’s honour in 2015 as part of an initiative by NET to recognise local stars and cultural figures. Vicky, who requested the change, formed Our Dementia Choir as part of a BBC documentary in 2018, inspired by her time caring for her late grandmother who had the disease. bbc.co.uk
📚 Quids in: An uncorrected proof edition of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets sold for £6k on Saturday. The version of it was described as “very rare” by auctioneers Arthur Johnson and Sons ahead of its sale, because it came before Harry Potter author JK Rowling hit the peak of her fame. Uncorrected proof editions are commonly printed in small numbers and used by reviewers before a book receives a wider release. Time to check the attic, we think. bbc.co.uk
Scores on the Doors 🏆
🌳 Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest have announced that Vitor Pereira will be their new manager following the departure of Sean Dyche last week. Dyche was sacked after a 0-0 draw with bottom club Wolves that left Forest just three points above the Premier League relegation places. Pereira’s most recent role was at Wolves, but he has also worked under owner Evangelos Marinakis at Olympiakos
🦌 Mansfield Town
Mansfield Town stunned Premier League Burnley in the FA Cup on Saturday, with the League One side coming from behind to win 2-1 and progress to the 5th round for the first time since 1975. Nigel Clough’s side went behind in the first half, but a brilliant second half performance – first to get level through Rhys Oates, then to absorb pressure and take the lead with Louis Reed – saw them deservedly through. Mansfield are now the lowest-ranked team left in the Cup and will find out their next-round opponents tonight.
🐦 Notts County
Notts County secured a draw away against League Two leaders Bromley, which keeps them well placed in the race for automatic promotion. Matthew Dennis has been in fine goal-scoring form this season, but turned the ball into his own net midway through the first half. Jodi Jones equalised with a penalty and also had a chance to put Notts ahead before Scott Robertson was sent off for a second bookable offence. Notts sit 4th in League Two.
🏒 Nottingham Panthers
The Nottingham Panthers had a mixed Valentine’s weekend, hosting a double header against the Belfast Giants. Saturday’s fixture was a 4-2 defeat, before a better performance saw them win 5-3.
