Notts Going On: Celebrating Notts language and eating bottomless pancakes
We've got stacks of things to smile about in this week's Notts Going On
Maybe it’s the love in the air this week or the days getting brighter, but I have felt particularly cheery heading out and about in Nottingham over the past week. Yes, okay, we did have that grim bit of snow on Thursday — but we got over that one pretty quickly.
If you’re looking for things to smile about, things to know, or things to do, we’ve got you sorted in this week’s Notts Going On. Oh, and I just thought I’d take this opportunity to share we’re now on TikTok, in case you want to keep up with us on there, too.

📣 Experts from both NTU and the University of Nottingham have teamed up on a brilliant project collecting the voices of Nottingham, reports Notts TV. You can listen to a huge range from all over the county, recounting beloved phrases and the stories that go with them, on the Celebrating Nottingham Language website and the Nottingham Voices app. Areas covered include Ashfield, Mansfield, Gedling, and Newark and Sherwood. It makes for fascinating listening.
🍽️ Football and fine dining, together? Kind of makes sense. Nottingham Forest has submitted a licensing application for the former Hart’s Restaurant on Park Row says the West Bridgford Wire, offering a high-quality dining experience similar to the previous offering. This also includes entertainment and late-night refreshment. It is a beautiful location, so we’re intrigued to see what it could look like with a Reds touch.
🥞 Pancake Day and Valentine’s Day are back to back this week on Tuesday and Wednesday, which is a recipe for a good time. We’ve covered romantic restaurants around Notts, but if you want to chow down on some fluffy goodness, we recommend The Pudding Pantry in Notts and Sherwood for decadent plates, Warsaw Diner on Derby Road for American-style stacks, and The Blind Rabbit by the Contemporary for all you can eat pancakes on the day.
❤️ Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo? Well, Romeo will be at Cleaver and Wake on Friday, as part of the Nottingham Shakespeare Company’s Romeo and Juliet performances. The tragic tale is a classic, but NSC has put a fresh, modern spin on it that plays with the ideas of society and normality. Tickets are also still available for the shows at Ruddington Village Hall on Thursday and Southwell Minster on Saturday.
🏡 Have you ever wanted to waltz around your own country manor? This stunning house in Nottingham on Rightmove is accepting offers over £1.9m. It has an arts and crafts movement influence throughout, with plenty of colourful and characterful rooms. This includes a reading room we want to cosy up in right now, as well as five bedrooms, four reception rooms, and three bathrooms. Outside, there is an outdoor swimming pool and a view of Wollaton Park.
⚽ Forest played Newcastle at the City Ground on Saturday, with the match ending in a 3-2 defeat. Steve Hodge, who won two League Cups with Forest, told BBC Nottingham Sport that Callum Hudson-Odoi’s performance was ‘absolutely brilliant’. Meanwhile, Notts County lost 3-1 to Gillingham at Meadow Lane on Friday and Mansfield Town had a storming 4-0 victory against Forest Green away on Saturday.
