Notts Going On — Bye-bye burgers and pumpkin picking
Farewell to a Notts institution, a family home in Tollerton, autumnal treats, and more...
Hello and welcome to Notts Going On — your weekly local guide with news, property, events, and more. We’re your boots on a muddy autumn day — we make everything that little bit easier to walk through.
As some of you may know, I’ve been working on The Notts Edit alongside my full-time job for the past year. But, I’ve now gone freelance, which will allow me to devote more time to the publication. If you have any ideas for us or want to meet me for a coffee to chat, get in touch with me at editor@thenottsedit.com.
Enjoyed this week’s Notts Going On? You can subscribe for free to receive our articles in your inbox (it’s super useful for you and really helps us out!).

News 🗞️
🍔 Bye-bye burgers: Nottingham’s own Annie’s Burger Shack has shut its doors after a difficult last couple of years. The American-style burgers, created by Anmarie Spaziano, were beloved during their days at the Trent Navigation, before the shack moved into premises on Broadway in 2014. It’s a real shame to see another local food institution go — fingers crossed Annie comes back around again soon (it would be amazing to see her take things back to basics!). westbridgfordwire.com
🦘 Hop to it: There have been numerous sightings of wallabies (yes, seriously!) around the county over the past few months. These are believed to be red-necked wallabies, which are the most common kind in the UK. The Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust has asked people to get in touch with them if they spot any. Erin McDaid told the BBC, “By giving as much detail as possible, we can then map the situation. We're also using the the interest in the wallabies to encourage people to send in records of other wildlife.” bbc.co.uk / record.nottinghamshirewildlife.org
⚽ Scores on the doors: Nottingham Forest earned a hard fought point away at high flying Chelsea, putting in a brilliant defensive performance at Stamford Bridge. The Reds go into the international break 10th in the Premier League but will be hoping England international Morgan Gibbs-White’s injury isn't as serious as feared. Mansfield Town earned a fifth straight win at home to Blackpool (their best run at this level since 1976), while Notts County fell to a 1-0 defeat at home to Port Vale. In ice hockey, Nottingham Panthers’ first home Elite League game of the season couldn't have gone any better, with a dominant 5-1 win over Fife Flyers.
Hot Property 🏡
This five-bedroom home in Tollerton reminds me of the cottage from The Holiday, but with more of an airy feel thanks to how spacious it is. It has plenty of charming features both original and vintage, including striking feature fireplaces, exposed ceiling beams, and even a beautiful phone. My favourite room is the fifth bedroom that’s currently being used as a study, which has a bookcase with a rolling ladder that’ll allow you to live out your Belle fantasy. The guide price is £900k and it’s marketed by HoldenCopley. rightmove.co.uk
