Notts Going On — Nottingham Chamber Music Festival and our Gloworm Tickets Competition
Music festivals and concerts, a £1.3m home in Plumtree, and 15 of the best pubs in England...
Hello and welcome to Notts Going On — your weekly guide with events, property, news, and more.
Things have definitely levelled up with The Notts Edit recently. For those who don’t know, I’m a lifestyle journalist and I went freelance about eight months ago. This has really allowed me to focus on The Notts Edit, which has meant we have been able to increase our growth. I wrote a bit about this on LinkedIn. This includes reaching over 1,000 email subscriptions, which I’m beyond grateful for. Thank you all for subscribing! We’re also almost at 5,000 followers on Instagram, so I’d be super grateful for any follows on there, too.
Even with all this, I still want to make sure that we’re doing the best job possible of bringing you Notts Going On and features from the county. If you ever have any questions or feedback about The Edit, please do get in touch with me at editor@thenottsedit.com.

What’s On 🗓️
Crazy Little Sing Called Pub 🎶
When: July 10
Where: The Big Shed, Nottingham
How much: £13.20pp, £49.50pp groups of four
Warm up your vocal cords and get ready to belt out an epic anthem with a group of strangers. Teacher Abi Moore will guide you to create a harmonised choir, creating an amazing sound. It is said that singing with others can be a brilliant mood-booster, so this sure sounds like a majorly therapeutic Thursday evening activity.
Do if: You fancy taking your shower singing to another level.
Torvill and Dean: Our Last Dance ⛸️
When: July 10-12
Where: Motorpoint Arena, Nottingham
How much: From £53.80pp
Known for their famous gold-winning Bolero dance at the Winter Olympics, Nottingham ice-skating duo Torvill and Dean are heading to the ice together for the last times ever at the place where they started. Thursday evening and Friday afternoon have the best availability, but there are still limited tickets on the Friday evening and Saturday finale — so quite literally get your skates on for those.
Do if: Waving goodbye to two local legends sounds brilliant to you.
Nottingham Chamber Music Festival 🎶
When: July 10-13
Where: Various venues around Nottingham
How much: Mix of free and ticketed events
A host of the city’s historical and iconic settings are set to be the stages for a variety of different classic musical concerts. It’s worth checking out the full programme, but we think two big highlights include Delilah Fine Foods’ 20th anniversary celebration with music, drinks, and canapés (July 10, £45pp) and Tunnel Vision at the Grade II listed Park Tunnel (July 13, £10-£12pp).
Do if: You’d like to get into classical music — this is a brilliant place to start.
Poetry and Plates 📖
When: July 11
Where: Delilah Fine Foods, Nottingham
How much: £20pp
Tasty words and tastier food are coming to Delilah Fine Foods for a night of Poetry and Plates, where delectable wordplay will meet with delicious 'party' dishes from Delilah’s kitchen, along with superb sips to keep spirits high. The evening will feature poet comedian and playwright Ben Macpherson, author, comedian and poet Jay Sandhu, and poet and workshop leader Sue Allen. You can also expect a few birthday surprises for Delilah’s 20th birthday celebration.
Do if: You’d like to go to an event where your soul and your stomach will leave feeling full.
Candlelight: The Best of Hans Zimmer 🎶
When: July 11
Where: Nottingham Contemporary
How much: From £34.65pp
Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer is known for blockbuster tunes in movies such as Gladiator, Dune, and Pirates of the Caribbean, which are even more dramatic when heard live. The 41 Degrees Quartet will bring them to life during this special concert, while the glow of candlelight will add extra ambience. The ticket price varies depending on seating and there is wheelchair accessibility available.
Do if: You’re looking for a dreamy, romantic date night idea.
Kelham Hall’s Hoedown Showdown 🤠
When: July 13
Where: Kelham Hall, Newark
How much: £20pp adult, £10pp child
Lay your cards down, park your Lexus, and throw your keys up — this is a real-life boogie and a real-life hoedown. You will be able to dance to country tunes by Tennessee-born solo artist Country with Clint and Shania Live, join in with lively line dancing classes led by an instructor, and try hearty, flavoursome Western food. There will also be a best-dressed competition, so be sure to turn up suited and cowboy-booted.
Do if: You and the family would love to experience some all-American fun without jet-setting across the world.

Hot Property 🏡
Airy and modern, this five-bedroom home in Plumtree has light pouring into it with large windows in every room. The best one has to be in the open-plan kitchen and living room space, which has huge French doors that open out into the garden for breezy indoor/outdoor living. Step out into the outdoors and you’ll be able to enjoy a sprawling lawn and countryside views. We also love the gorgeous marble waterfall kitchen island, the cosy master bedroom with an ensuite, and the fitted wardrobes. The home is marketed by Royston & Lund Estate Agents, which is accepting offers over £1.3m. rightmove.co.uk
News 🗞
🍻 Cheers to that: The Telegraph named its 500 top pubs in England, with 15 Nottinghamshire pubs on the list. In Nottingham these include The Vat and Fiddle, the Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, and The King William IV (also known as The King Billy — which is a Notts Edit favourite, too!). Outside the city centre, The Horse and Jockey in Stapleford, The Crown Inn in Beeston, and The Old Green Dragon in Southwell were all mentioned. telegraph.co.uk
🧻 Blast from the past: Forget messages in bottles — we’ve got a message on toilet roll. A couple who moved into a new home in West Bridgford uncovered a message written by an eight-year-old in the 1980s, and tracked her down on Facebook. The author turned out to be 43-year-old Emma Smith, who still lives in Nottingham. The power of social media! bbc.co.uk
🥘 Good taste: Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne played their final ever gig at Villa Park on Saturday. Restaurant Sat Bains did the catering for this in what looks to be one of the hospitality boxes. They had options throughout the day, including Jersey Royals with caviar and cream cheese for brunch, Cornish crab with butter curry sauce for early dinner, and Punjabi 99 with chickpea curry as a late night snack. Yum! @satbains
Scores on the Doors 🏆
🌳 Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest have signed Igor Jesus from Brazilian club Botafogo for a reported £10m fee. The 24-year-old won Brazil's Serie A and Copa Libertadores last season, and has also scored twice at the FIFA Club World Cup. Jesus has signed a four year deal with the Reds.
🦌 Mansfield Town
Nigel Clough has put pen to paper on a new two year deal with Mansfield Town. In his time with the Stags, Clough secured promotion to League One before overseeing a 17th place finish last season.
🏏 Cricket
Nottinghamshire played out a high scoring County Championship draw with Somerset last week, with Jack Haynes scoring 157 and bowler Liam Patterson-White putting in a performance that landed him in the PCA Team of the Week. The Outlaws resumed the Vitality Blast with a defeat against Durham before victory over Leicestershire, while the Blaze beat Hampshire before their match against Durham was abandoned due to rain.
