Notts Going On
By Eve Smallman and Sam Swain
What’s On This Week 🗓️
The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe 🎭
When: November 4-8
Where: Theatre Royal, Nottingham
How much: £23.50pp-£53.50pp
Head to the Theatre Royal and step into the magical kingdom of Narnia during this enchanting, immersive production. Join Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter as they meet new friends, face dangerous foes, and learn the lessons of courage and sacrifice. It’s also the perfect way to celebrate the 75th anniversary of C.S. Lewis’s classic novel.
Do if: You’d like to see a West End show right here in Nottingham.
Telling Tinder Tales 😂
When: November 7
Where: The Hockley Emporium, Nottingham
How much: £8.80pp
Delve into mishaps from dating apps with Telling Tinder Tales, where real dating stories are explained and discussed with the audience. While this is an award-nominated podcast, there won’t be a live recording (so feel free to be as vocal as you like!). The Hockley Emporium is well-located, meaning you can grab food and drink in Nottingham city centre before or after. This is part of Nottingham Comedy Festival, which is running the whole week.
Do if: You’d like to have a Friday night giggle (especially so if you also relate to dating app woes).
Winter Craft Fair 🛍️
When: November 7-8
Where: Southwell Minster
How much: £3pp suggested donation, under 16s free
Over 50 stalls will be selling jewellery, ceramics, textiles, and more during this craft fair set in the beautiful Southwell Minster. On Friday the event will run from 4-8pm, while on Saturday it will run from 10am-3.30pm and will have an additional 15 stalls in the State Chamber of The Archbishop’s Palace next door. If you visit on Saturday, we also recommend taking a trip to Little Brunette Bakery in Southwell for a delicious baked treat.
Do if: You’d like to make a start on your Christmas shopping and support local makers.
Bonfire Night at Belvoir Castle 🎆
When: November 7
Where: Belvoir Castle, Grantham
How much: From £15pp adult, from £7pp child
While this is a 45-minute drive away from Nottingham city centre, it’s one of the most spectacular spots around the area to see a fireworks show this year. Its display is set to be bigger and better than ever, thanks to the larger location and fireworks by award-winning pyro-technicians. Along with all this, there will be sizzling food and drink, a big bonfire, and live music.
Do if: You didn’t catch fireworks last weekend, and still want to experience Bonfire Night magic.
Festive Sip and Paint Night 🎨
When: November 8
Where: Copper Cogs, Long Eaton
How much: £38.62pp
Flex your artistic skills or simply relax and dabble during this festive evening, where you’ll be shown how to paint your own holiday masterpiece. This is suitable for beginners and seasoned artists, so don’t worry if it has been a while since you’ve worked on an artwork. The ticket includes two drinks - either a cocktail or mocktail — to fuel you up for the important task ahead.
Do if: You’d like to spend your Saturday night doing something creative.

Bringing together original features and modern finishes, this four-bedroom home in Sherwood is perfect for those who love a house with character, but would like to move into one that’s ready-made. The living areas have fabulous feature fireplaces, the sage green kitchen has a lovely arch, and the hallway has colourful Minton tiles. All four bedrooms are plenty spacious, as is the garden that’s complete with a patio and lawn. It’s marketed by HoldenCopley, which is accepting offers over £500k. rightmove.co.uk
News 🗞
💸 Making an offer: Two businesses from Nottinghamshire featured on Dragons’ Den last week. Inclusive dance-wear brand Shades and SeeTheTape both pitched to Deborah Meaden, Peter Jones, Sara Davies, Steven Bartlett, and Touker Suleyman. We won’t spoil the result, but you can catch up by watching episode 14 of series 22. bbc.co.uk
🍫 Pure imagination: Savour — the cafe that’s the new home of Studio Chocolate — is officially opening up in West Bridgford this Wednesday. It will serve chocolate, coffee, and baked goods, as well as offering workshops. We interviewed owner Ellie Wharrad a few months ago, and we’re pleased to see that the shop is ready to go after her Crowdfunder campaign. @savournottingham
🎶 Cast your vote: Did you go to Dot to Dot Festival this year and have a fabulous time? It has made the final shortlist at the UK Festival Awards for Inner City Festival of the Year and Line-up of the Year for the 20th anniversary edition. If you’d like to help it secure a win, public voting — which makes up 30% of the vote — is open until November 4 and takes just a couple of mins to do. festivalawards.com
Scores on the Doors 🏆
🌳 Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest picked up their first Premier League point under Sean Dyche with a 2-2 draw against Manchester United at the City Ground. After falling behind, a goal each from Morgan Gibbs-White and Nicolò Savona put the Reds ahead before United equalised. Results elsewhere meant Forest slipped to 19th. In a fine gesture, Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis has offered to fund the medical care of any Red fans caught up in the weekend’s horrific train attack.
🦌 Mansfield Town
Mansfield Town edged past League Two Harrogate to progress to the FA Cup Second Round. After taking an early lead, Mansfield struggled to put the game away and it looked as though Harrogate might have forced extra time, making the score 2-2 after 80 minutes, before substitute George Maris’ second goal of the game put Stags through.
🐦 Notts County
Notts County were knocked out of the FA Cup by non-league Brackley. Goals from Alassana Jatta and Jodi Jones had twice put Notts ahead, but a 96th minute penalty was tucked home by Callum Stewart to take the tie to extra time, before Brackley deservedly won 4-3 on penalties.
🏒 Nottingham Panthers
The Nottingham Panthers bounced back from a midweek 4-1 defeat to Cardiff Devils with a point in a shootout defeat to Belfast Giants and a fine 5-2 win over Coventry Blaze.
