10 brilliant dog-friendly pubs in Nottinghamshire
By Eve Smallman
1. Six Barrel Drafthouse
Where: Carlton Street, NG1 1NN and Mansfield Road, NG1 3GX
This has two locations in the city centre — one nestled in Hockley and one by the Vic Centre — so you and your pooch can easily park wherever you are. Both of them have a chilled out, trendy vibe, as well as hosting weekly musical events for you to tap your feet (or paws) to. The Victoria location also has a fabulous rooftop terrace — a rarity in the city centre.
Do if: You’re looking for an accessible pub that still feels ‘cool’.
2. Malt Cross
Where: St James’s Street, NG1 6FG
We can’t think of a more aesthetically pleasing pub in the city centre. One of the country’s few surviving Victorian music halls, this Grade II venue is bright, colourful, and ultra-comfy. On Sundays, it has gorgeous roast dinners that are £16, but worth every penny in portion size. We can also highly recommend the decadent hot chocolate on cooler days.
Do if: You’re after a beautiful venue that will please a variety of people.
3. Ye Olde Bridge Inn
Where: Nottingham Road, Oxton, NG25 0SE
Escape to the countryside and relax at this gorgeous family-run gastropub. Outside it has Instagrammable domes which are perfect for summer days, while inside it’s beautifully light and airy. Whether you want sharing plates, an a la carte menu, or timeless classics, there are options for all occasions. At the bar, you can also find dog treats for yours to tuck into.
Do if: You want a crowd-pleasing pub with a wow-factor.
4. The Angel Microbrewery
Where: Stoney Street, NG1 1LG
Nestled in the heart of Hockley, this cosy pub is full of character and has a good amount of seats to sit at. Take a seat outside the front for people watching, curl up inside, or head out back to the beer garden. The choices don’t stop at the seats, either — it has its own Angel Ales on tap and a delicious menu with straight veggie and vegan swaps for many dishes. Meanwhile, upstairs is The Chapel, which regularly hosts DJ sets and music from local artists.
Do if: You’re looking for a city-centre pub that’s easy to get to, but feels out of the way.
5. The Lion at Basford
Where: Mosley Street, New Basford, NG7 7FQ
Want reassurance that you’re taking your dog to a place that will really welcome it? The Lion at Basford, with its three Dog-Friendly Pub of the Year Awards under its belt, is a safe bet. It’s renowned for its friendly atmosphere and snug interior which both make it truly feel like a proper pub. It also has a jam-packed events schedule throughout the week, with live music, pub quizzes, and even backgammon.
Do if: You like to have a real choice of craft beers and ales.
6. Dixies Arms
Where: Lower Bagthorpe, Underwood, NG16 5HF
If you love pubs with plenty of character, The Dixies Arms is one with all of that and more. It has eclectic mugs and coasters hung on the walls, as well as dark wooden beams and soft seating that makes it an ideal place to nestle down. The pub has outdoor seating both sheltered and unsheltered, so you can catch some rays or stay cool in the shade depending on the weather and your (and your dog’s) mood.
Do if: You want a pub that will transport you to the past, in the best way.
7. The Dog House
Where: Station Street, Kirkby in Ashfield, NG17 7AP and Main Street, Kimberley, NG16 2NG
The clue is in the name of this one. Inside, it’s anything but a dog house, though - it’s warm, vibrant, and very chic. This has plenty of classic beers and even an extensive cocktail menu, so whether you’re looking for a pint or something more exotic, you’re covered. You can also tuck into stone-baked pizzas, which are 2-4-1 on Tuesdays at Kimberley and are £12 with a drink on Thursdays at Kirkby.
Do if: You’re looking for a pub as stylish as your dog is.

8. The Crafty Teller
Where: Mansfield Road, Sherwood, NG5 2FR
Cocktails, coffee, ales, and everything in between are served up at this quirky pub. The interior is like an art gallery, with plenty of unique details to pore over while you sip on your pint or dive into delicious dishes. It has a relaxed atmosphere and food that matches, with tapas sharing platters that will go down very well with a beer or wine. Keep an eye out for the pie of the day.
Do if: You’re looking for great vibes and friendly service just outside the city centre.

9. Liquid Light
Where: Robin Hood Industrial Estate, NG3 1GE
Whether you’re vegan or not, this is a fun, relaxed place to enjoy some of Notts’ finest locally made ales and burgers. Liquid Light’s vegan ales are on tap, and you can even get a flight of them to try out. Parked up inside is Mocky-D, which is one of our favourite places to go for vegan food in Nottingham. It also hosts a dog of the month competition, where if you take a snap of your dog at the venue, you can be in with a chance of winning pup-tastic treats.
Do if: You want a breezy inside/outside venue — the industrial unit door is usually wide open, making it a great spot for fidgety pooches.
10. Stratford Haven
Where: Stratford Road, West Bridgford, NG2 6BA
We might not be William Shakespeare county (we’re more into Lord Byron’s history), but this pub is named after the place the famed playwright is from. The wraparound wooden bar is a great place to lean, relax, and chat, as is the outdoor seating area with plenty of seats. Drinks wise, options include 14 craft beer lines, 10 craft keg lines, as well as locally roasted coffee from Stewarts of Trent Bridge.
Do if: You need a relaxed pint after a day of watching cricket.
