7 places to go for vegan food in Nottingham 🌱
1. Prickly Pear
What: Cosy vegan eats
Where: The Golden Fleece, Mansfield Road, Nottingham, NG1 3FN
No matter what your vegan craving might be, Prickly Pear will have you covered. With loaded burgers, classics like tofish and chips, and burritos and tacos, there’s an astounding variety here. On Sundays, you can even get a roast, with a choice of beef seitan or tofu belly with crackling, as well as all the trimmings. It often has seasonal specials, such as having Christmas currywursts and mac and cheese during the festive period.
Try if: You want all the choices.
2. No. Twelve
What: Refined dining
Where: Eldon Chambers, Wheeler Gate, Nottingham, NG1 2NS
For vegan food that’s truly breathtakingly innovative, No. Twelve is the place to go. The Telegraph named it one of the best plant-based restaurants in the country and it also has a host of awards under its belt. We’ve been visiting it since its brunchy beginnings on Houndsgate, and love how it has evolved into elegant small plates that really showcase its expertise. Examples of these include dishes like kimchi risotto, cauliflower satay, and sticky aubergine baos. If you want a full fine dining experience, it also hosts a nine-course tasting menu that needs to be booked in advance.
Try if: You’re looking for sophisticated vegan dining.

3. Café Roya
What: Elevated dishes
Where: Wollaton Road, Beeston, NG9 2PE
This does specialise in vegetarian food, but it always has vegan options too. It rotates its menu monthly and with the seasons, so you can visit time and time again and dive into something different. It hosts lunch bakes 12-2.30pm, and then serves dinner from 5pm. This is a split of nibbles, starters, mains, and desserts, and is usually a real mixture of different cuisines from around the world. You go for the full three courses or even just grab some starter plates and nibbles for a lighter bite.
Try if: You’d like to try a mix of veggie and vegan food.
4. Sea and Earth
What: Fish and chips
Where: Mansfield Road, Woodthorpe, NG5 3FH
This clever chip shop serves both regular fish and chips and vegan fish and chips — Sea and Earth, get it? These are both prepared and served separately, so you don’t need to worry about cross-contamination. We’re talking banana blossom ‘fish’, mock scampi, vishcakes, plus vegan sausages and nuggets. We recommend the scampi, paired with mushy peas and miso mayo. FYI, it’s owned by the same family that runs George’s Tradition, who have a host of chippies across the county.
Try if: You’re looking for a takeout option that serves multiple dietary requirements.
5. Mocky-D
What: Burgers
Where: Robin Hood Industrial Estate, Alfred Street, NG3 1GE
The clue is in the name here, people. These guys are all about fast food comforts, with burgers such as The Big Mock (a hot take on you know what), hefty kebabs, and even seasonal specials. Our top tip? Ask for the £4 Grim burger, which is a fairground-style affair with fried onions, cheese, and ketchup. The van is pitched up at local brewery Liquid Light which serves vegan beer, so you can grab an ale to enjoy while you wait and wash your meal down.
Try if: The McPlant just doesn’t quite do it for you.
6. Mowgli
What: Indian
Where: Stoney Street, Nottingham, NG1 1LG
One of the most aesthetic eateries in the city centre, Mowgli delivers on flavour as much as it delivers on style. You can pour over a special vegan menu, which is packed with street food dishes like chat bombs, bhel puri, and its own signature chip butty. It also has curries like the temple dhal (pictured), picnic potato curry, and tea-steeped chickpeas. If you’re out in a group and are worried about being the vegan one out, it has enough options that you’ll feel included and satisfied.
Try if: You want a crowd-pleasing place with vegan options.

7. The Avenues
What: Breakfast and lunch
Where: 13 Gedling Street, Nottingham, NG1 1DS
You just can’t beat a good greasy spoon, and The Avenues does an amazing job of serving up breakfasts, cobs, toasties, and more. It has a vegan breakfast that we love that comes with hash browns, bubble and squeak, sausages, mushrooms, and tomatoes, toast and tea/coffee or juice. You can also peruse its daily specials menu which often includes vegan paninis, burgers, kebabs, and gyros.
Try if: You’re after budget-friendly, filling vegan food.
No matter what food you’re after, Notts has you covered at all times of the year — even after Veganuary.
