Notts Going On: Theatrical excellence and cosy autumnal activities
Sporting news, a Victorian duplex, marvellous music shows, and more...
Hello and welcome to Notts Going On — your weekly local guide with news, property, events, and more.
For those receiving this in their inboxes, apologies for the slight delay! I ran the Robin Hood Half Marathon yesterday, which was amazing but totally wiped me out. It was wonderful to see so many people come out and cheer everyone on. I love how supportive our county is, which is one of the many reasons why I adore living here.

Notts Going On

News 🗞️
📺 A huge hit: The TV drama Sherwood has been renewed for a third season, following the critical success of the first two seasons. Mansfield-born writer James Graham said: “It continues to be the greatest privilege to tell stories set in and inspired by the history of my home county of Nottinghamshire. Having a returning series on the BBC is pretty much every British writer’s dream." Interestingly, Nottingham College saw applications for its criminology courses rise by more than 300% while the show aired. Renewal: bbc.co.uk / Nottingham College: bbc.co.uk
🏆 Round of applause: Nottingham Playhouse led the nominations at the UK Theatre Awards, with four nods in the categories Best Performance in a Play and Excellence in Inclusivity (both for James Graham's Punch), as well as Excellence in Sustainability and the Workforce Award. The awards ceremony will take place October 20 — break a leg! whatsonstage.com
⚽ Scores on the doors: Nottingham Forest fell to a 1-0 home defeat against Fulham on Saturday. The Reds' unbeaten Premier League run came to an end thanks to a controversial penalty scored in the second half. Mansfield Town's fine start to the League One season continued with a 2-0 win at Northampton, with the Stags sitting 5th after 7 games. Notts County earned a point after a 1-1 draw against Morecambe, but will be disappointed that star player Jodi Jones will be missing until 2025 after an injury sustained last week.
🏏 Go well: Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club secured County Championship Division 1 survival over the weekend, with a fine century from Freddie McCann and 3 wickets from Farhan Ahmed helping to secure the requisite points in a draw with Warwickshire. Notts also paid an emotional farewell to bowler Luke Fletcher, AKA the Bulwell Bomber, who leaves after 17 years, 643 wickets and five major titles.
Hot Property 🏡
I don't often include apartments in Hot Property, but I had to make an exception for this stunning three-bedroom duplex in The Park. This Victorian conversion has a grand private entrance, period features, and lots of modern fittings. My favourite areas have to be the sitting room with amazing high ceilings and the dreamy dressing room which is straight out of a rom-com. It's listed at £650k and marketed by Savills. rightmove.co.uk
