Notts Going On — Midsomer Murders and The Beefy Boys
Theatre and workshops, a £1.1m home in Burton Joyce, juicy news, and more...
Hello and welcome to Notts Going On – your weekly guide with events, property, news, and more.
Normal Edit service will be resuming this week! Sam and I went on a Traitors weekend that our friends ran, which was absolutely incredible. For anyone curious, I was an iconic (but terrible) traitor, and Sam was a winning faithful. This was in Wales, and was so immersive that I didn’t even touch my laptop. Please do follow up with me via email if I haven’t responded to anything.

What’s On 🗓️
Midsomer Murders 🎭
When: February 24-28
Where: Theatre Royal, Nottingham
How much: From £18.50pp
In the theatrical world premiere of this television favourite, murder is coming to the countryside setting (well, built in the Theatre Royal!). When well-loved spinster Emily Simpson is found dead in the picturesque Badger’s Drift village, DCI Tom Barnaby and Sergeant Gavin Troy are called in to investigate, uncovering a world of hidden passions, long-buried secrets and deadly rivalries. This classic whodunnit will have you guessing right until the end.
Do if: You’ll always get sucked into watching the show when channel-surfing – this is it on another level.
Painting Workshop 🎨
When: February 26
Where: Station Street, Kirkby in Ashfield
How much: £22.38pp
Spend a soothing evening painting a beautiful picture, all with the help of local artist Jo Bell. During this relaxed workshop, you’ll learn to paint a sunset giraffe scene with step-by-step guidance. No experience is needed – just be happy to be creative. The ticket price includes all the materials, and you can take your painting home.
Do if: You’d like to switch off and reach for a paintbrush instead of your phone after work.
An Evening with T. M. Logan 📚
When: February 26
Where: Waterstones, Nottingham
How much: £6pp ticket, £21pp book and ticket
Nottinghamshire author T.M. Logan is known for his gripping psychological thrillers, and his latest novel The Weekend is out on Thursday (the day of the event!). This book follows six friends who come across a backpack brimming with cash, and the storm they go through as they decide what to do with it. The evening will include a talk by the author himself, a Q&A, and a book signing.
Do if: You’d like to read more Nottingham books, or one of your New Year’s resolutions is to read more.
Fred Dinenage: Ronnie, Reggie, and Me 💬
When: February 27
Where: Kelham Hall, Newark
How much: £27pp, £35pp VIP
This live show hosted by broadcaster Fred Dinenage will see him discussing his experiences with the infamous Kray twins, Ronnie and Reggie. Dinenage was chosen by the twins to be their official biographer and gained unprecedented access to their lives, which he will share in the show through stories, anecdotes, and exclusive recordings of conversation. You can also upgrade to VIP for front-row seats and pie and peas for tea.
Do if: You’re a real true crime lover – or you’ve just watched Legend and want to know more about the Kray twins.
Waterloo 🎶
When: February 27
Where: Motorpoint Arena, Nottingham
How much: From £35.72pp
Celebrating the iconic Swedish pop group ABBA, Waterloo brings together songs such as Mamma Mia, The Winner Takes It All, and Dancing Queen in a two-hour spectacular. Expect all the harmonies, stunning costumes and breath-taking choreography. Flares and go-go boots are optional, but we highly recommend them.
Do if: You never fail to sing along when an ABBA song comes on.

Hot Property 🏡
Love a period property, but still crave a touch of chicness? This four-bedroom home in Burton Joyce is a real beauty. It’s bright and spacious throughout, with an open-plan kitchen and dining area, a sleek conservatory, and the hotel-style bathrooms. We particularly like the outdoor space, which has a covered patio for dining al fresco no matter the weather. The guide price is £1.1m, and it’s marketed by HoldenCopley. rightmove.co.uk
News 🗞
🍔 Juicy bites: The Beefy Boys will be opening in Nottingham this April. The Queen Street site will serve up The Beefy Boys’ cult favourites, including the classic Beefy Boy Burger and the award-winning Oklahoma Onion Boy Cali Style burger. The Beefy Boys first made headlines when they placed second at the World Food Championships in Las Vegas in 2014. Nottingham will become its most northern restaurant to date, joining sites in Hereford, Shrewsbury, Cheltenham, Bath and Oxford. @thenottsedit
🍸 Cheers to that: Plans have been submitted by the developer behind The Island Quarter for what could be Nottingham's highest rooftop bar. Situated above 1 The Island Quarter, where Cleaver and Wake and Binks Yard are located, the rooftop bar will offer panoramic views across the city skyline with a premium menu to complement. If it gets the go ahead from Nottingham City Council, it could be one of the biggest rooftop spaces in the city. @thenottsedit
💸 Make it rain: A Nottingham woman was handed a gift card receipt for more than £63 quadrillion at 200 Degrees. Sophie Downing only intended to buy a matcha latte when she visited with a £10 gift card – but the receipt made her the “richest’ woman in the world on paper. A spokesperson for 200 Degrees said due to an “administrative error”, the gift card number – rather than the gift card value – was entered into the wrong part of the till. bbc.co.uk
Scores on the Doors 🏆
🌳 Nottingham Forest
Vitor Pereira’s reign as Nottingham Forest got off to an ideal start with a comfortable 3-0 win away over Fenerbahçe in the Europa League knockout round. Forest played fluid football throughout and has set themselves up for the home leg on Thursday. The Reds did fall to a late 1-0 home defeat to Liverpool in the Premier League, with results elsewhere leaving them just two points above the relegation places.
🦌 Mansfield Town
Mansfield Town’s progress to the FA Cup 5th Round has seen them drawn at home to current Premier League leaders Arsenal. The game will take place on March 7 and will be televised. Mansfield did fall to two defeats last week – a 1-0 defeat away to Blackpool and a 2-0 home defeat to Lincoln.
🐦 Notts County
Notts County moved back into the League Two automatic promotion places with a thumping 5-0 win at home over Tranmere. An own goal opened the scoring before two goals from Lee Ndlovu, and a goal each for Jodi Jones and Matthew Dennis capped an emphatic display.
🏒 Nottingham Panthers
The Nottingham Panthers sit 4th in the Elite League, having been beaten 5-1 away by Manchester Storm before a home shootout win over Cardiff Devils.
🥊 Boxing
Nottingham’s Leigh Wood beat Josh Warrington by unanimous decision at the Motorpoint Arena on Saturday. Wood controlled the contest to win with scores of 119-109, 119-109 and 117-111, and hinted that he may have fought his last fight.
