The pharmacy celebrated its 175-year anniversary this year and many Nottingham residents have worked for it or know someone who has, meaning it’s sure to be interesting for all. We visited the Boots Counter Culture exhibition at Lakeside Arts a few months ago which Sophie co-curated, and her insights were fascinating.

News 🗞️
😍 Making history: Nottingham-born goalkeeper Mary Earps became the first female professional footballer to have a waxwork at Madame Tussauds. The sculpture was unveiled last Monday at a special ceremony, which was attended by West Bridgford Colts footballer Amelia Wharrier. She got to meet Mary, who started out playing for the team. West Bridgford Colts chair Peter Stansbury told the West Bridgford Wire: “We are very proud to see our former player Mary Earps unveiled at Madam Tussauds. She is an inspiration to young girls in our club and, along with the success of the Lionesses, we continue to see more and more girls want to play football.” westbridgfordwire.com
❄️ Snow business: Shrug on your coats and pull on your gloves — things are about to get real chilly. The Met Office is reporting that snow will hit the East Midlands on Monday evening, with some heavy snow possible, but especially over hills. The minimum temperature could be -3 °C. On Tuesday, it says there will be cloud and snow clearing to blustery wintry showers, and further sleet and snow may follow into the evening. Later in the week, it says to expect bright but bitter with sunshine, periods of brisk northerly winds, and some further ice and snow may be possible. metoffice.gov.uk
🍫 Sweet treat: Let’s be real — is it really the run-up to Christmas without an advent calendar? If you’re looking for a special, Nottingham-made one, Luisa’s Vegan Chocolates’ is artisan and ethically friendly. It was featured in The Observer Magazine’s advent calendar round-up, sitting alongside the likes of Joe and Seph’s popcorn and Bird and Blend tea (which was founded in Nottingham!). For more locally-made Christmas delights, keep an eye out for our gift guide this weekend. @luisasveganchocolates / luisasveganchocolates.co.uk
⚽ Scores on the doors: The international break meant no league action for Forest or Mansfield Town this week, however, Nottingham Forest Women put in a stellar performance at the City Ground, beating Stoke 4-0. Forest was well represented on the international stage with Morgan Gibbs-White getting his first England assist on Friday and Chris Wood continuing his red-hot form with five goals in two games for New Zealand. In League Two, Notts County fell to a 2-0 defeat away at Crewe. Meanwhile in ice hockey, the Panthers lost two away games against Glasgow and Coventry.
