Theatre 🎭
Nottingham Playhouse’s Lara Sas is bringing fresh magic to this year’s pantomime
When it comes to Christmas shows in the city, there’s nothing like the Nottingham Playhouse panto, which is known across the country for being special and unique.
Hot Property 🏡
Any house that looks like it could be out of a cosy Christmas film is always a winner in my books. This three-bedroom home in Lenton is both elegant and rustic, and dates back to the 18th century. The feature living room with large wooden windows, the master bedroom with huge built-in wardrobes, and the wrap-around garden are just a few highlights. It even has a handy former stable-turned-annex. The guide price is £510k and it’s marketed by HoldenCopley. rightmove.co.uk
News 🗞
🌟 Star power: Belters all-women a capella choir have released their recording of A Star Called Peace. All proceeds will go to Emmanuel House, supporting people in Nottingham who are homeless. This song will be performed live at Belter’s annual Christmas concert, which is at St Mary’s Church in Nottingham tonight at 7pm (Monday December 15, tickets from £8pp). eventbrite.co.uk
🌳 Fresh greenery: A new woodland area is being created in Upper Broughton in Rushcliffe, with about 15,000 plants and shrubs set to be planted across 54 acres. The site will be called Rushcliffe Woods and is set to feature a new meadow area, paths for the public to use, and wetlands for local species and wildlife. Rushcliffe Borough Council, who purchased the land, said the new area was part of its goal to become carbon neutral by 2030. bbc.co.uk
🚌 All aboard: New mobile app Ride has been launched across Nottingham and Derby, bringing together a host of integrated transport information and ticketing options in one handy place. This includes buses, trams, trains, walking, cycling and shared transport service. It can be downloaded now for Android devices and for iOS by searching ‘Ride East Midlands.’ westbridgfordwire.com
Scores on the Doors 🏆
🌳 Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest handed out a 3-0 thrashing to Tottenham Hotspur at the City Ground on Sunday – their third consecutive win over Spurs. Callum Hudson-Odoi scored twice before a stunning goal from Ibrahim Sangare secured the points that lifted Forest 6 points clear of the relegation places. Forest also beat Utrecht away in the Europa League.
🦌 Mansfield Town
Mansfield Town ended their winless run in League One with a goalless draw against AFC Wimbledon. Lucas Akins went close before Ryan Sweeney had a goal disallowed. Stags had lost 1-0 at home to Bolton in midweek. The result leaves Mansfield 16th in League One on 23 points.
🐦 Notts County
Notts County moved up to second in League Two after two successive wins last week. Notts won a thriller at home 3-2 against an in form MK Dons, before a 2-0 win away at Grimsby. Matthew Dennis and Alassana Jatta scored in both games, with the in form pair lifting Notts to just two points from the top of the table.
🏒 Nottingham Panthers
The Nottingham Panthers ended a run of five straight away games with a 3-0 win over Manchester Storm, with Jason Grande keeping out 38 shots in the shutout win. Their homecoming fixture saw them win 4-1 over Fife Flyers.
🦘🏏 Ashes Watch
Nottinghamshire fast bowler Josh Tongue will be in England’s playing XI in the third Ashes test in Adelaide, alongside opener Ben Duckett. Anything less than a win for England will see Australia retain the Ashes after two disappointing tests.
