Hot Property 🏡
Have you ever visited Newstead Abbey and wished you could live in Lord Byron’s home? This historic Grade II two-bedroom home on the actual grounds will get you pretty close. The outside is dramatic and gothic, with a seating area perfect for cosy cups of tea. Step inside and you’ll find a surprisingly bright interior, with characterful arches, a wood-burning stove, and beautifully shaped windows. It’s marketed by Gascoines, which is accepting offers over £460k. rightmove.co.uk
News 🗞
🍷 Raise a glass: Wolds Wine Estate, located in Stanton-on-the-Wolds, was named one of the best UK vineyards by The Guardian. It said that despite the artisanal, family-run wine estate being pretty new to the British wine scene, it’s becoming well-known for its fun and juicy natural wines. It offers glamping, tours, and tastings and often hosts special events, so there are plenty of reasons to pay it a visit. woldswineestate.com / theguardian.com
⚽ Kitted out: Nottingham Forest unveiled its away kit last week, which features lovely nods to Nottingham lace. The base pattern combines the crest with the postcode of the stadium in a lace-like pattern, while the lace-inspired hems lock in the pattern. The men’s first team, Forest Women and Academy sides will all wear the new unique kit in selected games. nottinghamforest.co.uk
🔨 Building up: Medieval buildings St Mary Magdalene Church and Worksop Priory and Gatehouse are set to be restored, after Historic England announced grants of more than £320,000. Both of these date back to the 14th Century and are Grade I listed, meaning they are of exceptional interest. The money will see them removed from the Heritage at Risk Register. bbc.co.uk
Scores on the Doors 🏆
🌳 Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest ended their pre season with five draws and two defeats with goalless draws against Fiorentina and Al Qadsiah. They will be looking forward to getting the 25/26 Premier League season underway against Brentford on Saturday. It was also announced that Crystal Palace lost their appeal over their demotion to the Conference League, which means that Forest will remain in the Europa League next year.
🦌 Mansfield Town
Mansfield Town fell to a last minute 2-1 defeat at home to newly promoted Doncaster Rovers in League One. Stephen McLaughlin had put the Stags in front after 56 minute, before two goals from Owen Bailey secured three points for the visitors.
🐦 Notts County
Notts County also fell to a defeat, losing 2-1 at home to Salford. Notts rallied after going two down, with Jodi Jones striking the bar before Jayden Luker scored. However the damage had already been done, leaving Notts winless in the first two games of the League Two season.
🏏 Cricket
Nottinghamshire Outlaws played out a dramatic tie against Warwickshire in the One Day Cup, with Brett Hutton scrambling the run that levelled the scores in a rain affected game. The Outlaws then fell to a 127 run defeat to Derbyshire. In The Hundred, Trent Rockets men have beaten Birmingham Phoenix and Northern Superchargers for a perfect start to the tournament, while the women have fallen to defeats to the same sides.
