Hot Property 🏡
Bold, beautiful, and breezy, this four-bedroom home in Sherwood is a real beauty. It is Edwardian, which means there is lots of lovely detailing like stained glass windows, decorative coving, and cast-iron fireplaces. The open-plan kitchen-diner, the colourful bathrooms, and the contemporary garden are all smart additions. It’s listed at £400k and marketed by Purplebricks. Thank you to Andrew for sending us this property and finding its previous listing (the renovation is major!). rightmove.co.uk
News 🗞
☁️ Power off: The demolition of the iconic Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station was approved on Thursday, which was the UK’s last coal-fired power station. According to plans, it will take until at least 2030 to knock down and clear the site. The 273-acre site has also been earmarked for a new zero-carbon manufacturing and technology location. Anyone else a little saddened by this news? bbc.co.uk
🏅 Worthy award: Nottingham attacks victim Grace O’Malley-Kumar will be awarded the George Medal. She is one of 20 recipients of the civilian gallantry awards, and one of four awarded it posthumously. Prime Minister Keir Starmer said she made the ‘ultimate sacrifice’ defending Barnaby Webber during the incident, and that her legacy will live on. bbc.co.uk
🏅 Royal nod: Samantha Morton received her OBE last Wednesday for services to drama and charity, as listed in the 2025 Birthday Honours. The BAFTA-winning actress from Nottingham is an alumnus of The Television Workshop, which also trained Joe Dempsie and Bella Ramsey. When collecting her award, she used the opportunity to state the ‘care system isn’t fit for purpose.’ independent.co.uk
🥐 Tasty wins: The best bakeries in the UK were named by the National Bakery Awards, with three of these being from the Nottinghamshire region. These included the Little Brunette Bakery in Southwell, The Welbeck Bakehouse, and the Small Food Bakery (which is also part of the Nottingham Mill Co-op we recently featured). Congrats to all the winners — we’re now plotting out our next little treats. timeout.com
