News 🗞️
💚 Going green: The Green Heart on the former Broadmarsh site is finally opening this Wednesday. The newly landscaped site has trees, wildflowers, and a wetland area that will all help wildlife in the area. It will be open to the public from 1pm, so if you’ve got time on your lunch break to head down, it’ll be worth taking a look at. westbridgfordwire.com
🎶 Don’t look back in anger: Did you go on the hunt for Oasis tickets last week? You might have heard a familiar voice on the announcement video, with our own Vicky McClure doing the voiceover. She described it on X/Twitter as “the coolest secret” she’s ever kept. If you missed out on tickets, Definitely Oasis is playing Binks Yard on September 13. x.com / fixr.co
🚲 Wheelie good fun: On Friday, stage four of the Tour of Britain will be coming through Nottinghamshire, going through Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire before finishing in Newark-on-Trent. This will be the fifth time that the county's roads will welcome the sport's top stars. The timings have been published on the Nottinghamshire County Council site, so get ready to cheer the riders on. nottinghamshire.gov.uk
🏏 A star is born: Farhan Ahmed became the youngest player to take 10 wickets in a match in England on his Nottinghamshire debut against County Championship giants Surrey, at just 16 years old. The off-spinner broke the record set by WG Grace in 1865, so he’s sure to be on the radar of the England selectors. Local youngster Freddie McCann also posted his maiden 1st class century, scoring 154 in the first innings as Nottinghamshire drew the match.
⚽ The Gibbs-White choice: Morgan Gibbs-White’s fine performances for Nottingham Forest have finally been rewarded with an England call-up — the first permanent Forest player to be called up since Stuart Pearce in 1997. Forest continued their unbeaten start to the Premier League season with a 1-1 home draw against Wolves, while League 1 Mansfield Town drew with Stockport. Notts County also remain unbeaten in League 2 after a 2-1 win against Swindon.
Hot Property 🏡
Blending modern flair with original features, the historic Old Rectory Coach House in Clifton is full of character. The house has four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and expansive gardens. My favourite room has to be the living room, which is bright and spacious thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows, and finished with gorgeous exposed beams. I’m also a fan of the brick tiling on the floor. It’s marketed by Wigwam Homes and is listed at £700k. rightmove.co.uk
