The World Cup is the most watched sporting event on the planet – and, in The Power and the Glory, award-winning football writer Jonathan Wilson tells the definitive history of the tournament, as well as revealing how the World Cup reflects the story of the world itself. The event is almost full, so be quick if you’d like tickets.

Hot Property 🏡
We promise that this place is in Nottinghamshire, and not straight out of a storybook. This six-bedroom Grade II* listed 17th century hall in Lowdham is absolutely stunning. Step inside and you’ll find seven reception rooms, a living room with a balcony, and a kitchen with brick detailing and wooden cabinetry (spy the wine cabinet!). The bedrooms are all wonderfully enveloping, with many having wooden beams across the ceilings and one even having its own dressing room. Outside, there’s a huge amount of lawn space, a pond, and even its own tennis court. The guide price is £2.95m, and it’s marketed by Savills. rightmove.co.uk
News 🗞
🍣 Budget bites: Kushi-ya – one of our top restaurants in Nottingham – was named by The Times last week as one of the best places to dine on a budget in the UK. It loves its “inventive Japanese cooking” and recommends signature items such as the beef skewers with black garlic mustard (£9.50), as well as the furikake prawn toast (£5.75). thetimes.com
😎 The name’s Bond: Into your gaming? James Bond game 007: First Light came out last week, with a host of five star reviews. It stars Nottingham-born actor Lennie James (Line of Duty, The Walking Dead), who plays John Greenway as the mentor to the famous spy. The Guardian says, “This is on-rails storytelling done right” and “As far as Bond video games go, nobody has done it better.” theguardian.com
👏 Hall of fame: More than thirty of Nottingham’s creative students, children and young adults have received Young Creative Awards in recognition of their talent. The competition is open to students and young adults aged 11 to 24-years-old who live, work or study in Nottinghamshire. This year’s awards saw the winning young creatives battle it out against 475 entrants, before being crowned at a glittering awards ceremony at Nottingham Playhouse.
