7 of the best breakfast spots in Notts

1. The Avenues Cafe
Where: Gedling Street, NG1 1DS
Do you know the feeling when you wake up (probably after a Saturday night) and nothing but a full fry-up or loaded cob will do? The Avenues will sort you out. We appreciate that it does traditional English breakfasts both meat, veggie, and vegan, and you can change up your portion size depending on how hungry you are. Don't sleep on its toasties, either, which are buttery, hot, and properly crunchy. Along with all this, it offers an incredible lunch menu filled with gyros and kebabs, if you're going beyond brekkie.
Do if: You want a budget-friendly breakfast.
2. The Pudding Pantry
Where: Burton Street, NG1 4AF
While the name nods to its specialisation in sweet stuff, its brunch menu offers more than a sugar rush. The pantry breakfasts come with pancakes, along with eggs, tomatoes, beans, hash browns, and more. It also does buttermilk French toast and hash combos on sourdough. Or, you can go all-out and build your own enormous stacks of fresh, fluffy pancakes that can be topped with everything from ice cream to caramelised popcorn. Not fancying going into the city? It has locations in Sherwood and Beeston, too.
Do if: You're catering to sweet teeth and savoury ones.
3. Warsaw Diner
Where: Derby Road, NG1 5BB
This is a bit of a hidden gem, right at the top of the Derby Road hill — but trust us, the walk up to the top is worth it. For those looking for a proper American diner, home-style breakfast, it does no-nonsense, pure greasy fry-ups with the best hash browns in Nottingham, in our opinion. We’re talking proper grated hash browns, not those little small triangles. It also does pancakes and waffles topped with icing sugar and surrounded by fresh fruit, which are remarkably refreshing.
Do if: You’re looking for a chilled-out spot with lots of character.
4. Yolk
Where: Goose Gate, NG1 1FE
For us, eggs are an essential part of breakfast and brunch, and Yolk clearly agrees. Every dish involves them, from the cowgirl with avocado, beans, and sourdough to the hashville with red cabbage, sautéed potatoes and optional sausage. This is run by the same folks as 31K, which resides right next door, making going from brunch to afternoon drinks a total breeze if that's the vibe you're going for. Or, if you want to stick to one place, Yolk does bloody marys and mimosas, as well as coffee from North Star Coffee Roasters.
Do if: You want a casual place where you can eat outside on a sunny day.
5. Copper
Where: Market Street, NG1 6HX
This is easy to get to via tram — just hop off at the Royal Concert Hall stop and head towards the big grey building. Inside you'll find a relaxed and warm atmosphere that feels a little more upscale than a regular cafe. It has all the favourites on the menu, with fry-ups, hollandaise sauce muffins, and pancakes to choose from. Drinks-wise, it does really strong coffee, but also has a fantastic cocktail menu. If you live further afield, Gilt in West Bridgford has a similar menu, and is also cosy and inviting.
Do if: You want a crowd-pleasing place you can quickly find.
6. The Specialty
Where: Friar Lane, NG1 6DQ
We aren't kidding when we say this might be the best brunch spot in Nottingham. The Lilac Eatery inside The Specialty Coffee Shop has a pared-back menu, but that's always a sign it does everything well — and it does. Smaller options include the potato hash and breakfast muffin, while bigger ones include the creme brûlée French toast and the Turkish eggs. The latter is super garlicky and rich and is our number one choice. If you want to see more of it, have a look at our TikTok video.
Do if: You’re after an Instagrammable brunch.
7. Cosy Club
Where: Victoria Street, NG1 2EX
Even if you’re not super hungry, it’s worth going in for a coffee just to look at the gorgeous architecture of this building. It was formerly a Reform Club and still today has ornate detailing and sumptuous seats that will make you feel like you’ve stepped into another era. The breakfast menu that’s served until 12pm is absolutely filled with choice, with all the classics as well as healthy options and dirty breakfast butties. We like the fact it has specific gluten-free and vegan menus, with many straight swaps from the regular one.
Do if: You want to have breakfast in style.
The Pudding Pantry vegan break is immense, although it's not a pudding (and I'm not sure they have a pantry).
